What Vulkan’s Salamander Primarch Rules Could Be in 40k

vulkan primarch wal

Vulkan swore he would return and lead the Salamanders back to victory one day. Check out what another primarch’s rules could be if they appeared in 40k?

There’s not been any mention of Vulkan returning to 40k but if he were to, we may have an idea of how his rules might look.  Of course, we’ll be using his rules from the Horus Heresy and Guilliman in 8th edition as a building block for this mountain of muscle.

What Vulkan’s Rules Would Look Like in 8th Edition

Vulkan’s Stat-line would probably look something like:

M 7″ WS 2+ BS 2+ S7 T7 A6 Ld 10 Sv 2+ (3++ invuln)

He would be a bit slower than the other Primarch’s mimicking the Salamanders’ general rules in the Horus Heresy. However, because of his immense size to the other Primarchs in the lore, he might be +1 toughness and +1 strength from his brothers.

As for his rules in 40k, his aura ability would probably be like a souped-up Chapter Tactic allowing everyone within 6″ reroll all failed hit and wound rolls for flamer/melta weapons. In addition, there would probably be something like a +1 Ld to any Imperium units within 12″ of him. (He was one of the only Primarchs that went out of his way to save the lesser Imperial citizens).

The Master of the Forge’s Wargear

As for his Wargear rules:

  • Drakenscale: would probably give some stupid protection against flamers, plasma, and meltas. Not allowing for any wound to be better than a 5+ against him.
  • Dawnbringer: For his hammer, this would probably be a S x2 Ap -5 D6 damage (with rolls of 1 or 2 counting as 3). This weapon could also reroll failed wound rolls against anything with the vehicle keyword. Any units that are hit by the weapon fight at -1 WS.
  • The Furnace’s Heart: This thing would be like a laser pointer from hell. It would probably be a line-drawing weapon similar to Mortarion’s Lantern with a 24″ range. Dealing a S8 AP -3 D6 damage hit to any unit it passes through.
  • Vulkan’s Special Flamer: As for his flamer, it would probably be something like a 12″ D6 shot S8 AP -2 D1 auto-hitting hose that enemies would have to charge through to get to him. While the damage output might not be insane, S8 and -2 AP would melt “throw-away” units that try to close the gap and tarpit.
  • Adamantine Mantle gives +1 Sv to his invuln for any weapon that is -1 AP. With the rise of Astartes negative AP bonuses, this may be a spicy new rule in and of itself.

Overall, Vulkan might be on the slower side in terms of movement but definitely tanky. With the damage output from his hammer and melta pistol, he would be able to wreak slow and purposeful havoc in the immediate area around him.

With all of the thoughts on this Primarch covered in 40k, do you think these rules would be accurate? What other rules would you like to see him get (which would be fair)?
