GW dropped another FAQ for Warhammer: The Old World to keep the game updated and, hopefully, fix the typos and errors in all the books!
The latest FAQ for Warhammer The Old World provides valuable information for players eagerly reading the new rulebook. Games Workshop has addressed common questions and clarified some of the game’s intricacies, making it easier for players to enjoy the new edition.
Here is the latest on the Warhammer The Old World FAQ from Warhammer Community. They mentioned in the first FAQ in January 2024 that they hoped this FAQ would become bi-annual, and so far, they have made that happen! The studio also said you can mail them questions, and while they won’t respond directly, it will help them know what to answer moving forward.
Warhammer The Old World FAQ Guide Update: July 19th, 2024
The previous FAQ Old World had was pretty massive and actually updated the Legacy armies; this time around, it’s much smaller and more to fix typos.
The Old World FAQ & Errata documents got a fresh update in July. The Studio crew went to work tweaking a few things for clarity, sprinkling in more Q&As, and hunting down those sneaky typos that managed to slip through. It’s like a mini-makeover for the documents, making sure everything looks sharp and easy to understand. The Errata is only a single page this time, with the actual questions taking up the rest of the pages.
Luckily, they put the changes in magenta this time, so it’s actually easy to tell what’s changing.
Movement in the Old World is a big deal – think of it as the lifeblood of the game. Naturally, it raises a ton of questions. The golden rule? If you move a model at all, it moves. And no, you can’t stretch it further than your move allowance, no matter how much you wish it.
There are a few common-sense rules that GW didn’t write out completely, but they are still pretty important. For instance, only mounts cause impact hits. Sure, an Orc is hefty, but it’s the boar that does the real trampling. And forget about tying regeneration to armor or shields – that’s a whole different ball game.
Characters and weird formations? They’re the wild cards with loads of rules. Hopefully, this update clears up those quirks.
Oh, and for those tiny, nagging questions about magic – those are sorted, too. Game on!
Warhammer The Old World FAQ Guide Update: April 9th, 2024
Warhammer: The Old World has been out for just over two months, and it’s safe to say that it’s been a great success. Now that people have had the chance to get to grips with quite a complex set of rules, the team have released their first set of community-driven FAQs – for the Core Rules, Forces of Fantasy, and Ravening Hordes, on top of some corrections to errors in the Legacy PDFs, all of which you can download below. Here’s what the team has to say.
Well, this is quite a nice surprise. GW said they would never update the rules for Legends (even if it’s just fixing stuff), and maybe this is a hint that the Legends factions will be more supported than we expected. They also dropped FAQS for basically every other part of the game, which isn’t anything out of the norm for a newer game with new armies.
This is pretty par for the course with GW; they release a new game or army, and big FAQS come about a month or two later. However, they promised nothing they did would make significant changes to the gameplay since the game is so new.
Legacy FAQs
…we’ve updated the Legacy army lists, strictly in order to correct some errors that had crept in when we wrote them. If you’re using one of those, please make sure you have the most up-to-date version downloaded.
They say it’s just errors being corrected, but that’s more than we were promised, so we’re fine with it. If you play any of these Legacy armies, be sure to check these changes out.
Core Changes
Armed with your questions, we’ve updated the initial Old World FAQ document (which included a combination of questions the designers and playtesters anticipated would come up) and added two more; one for Ravening Hordes and one for Forces of Fantasy. Both of these incorporate the relevant Arcane Journals. In all of these we’ve addressed the questions asked most often and, where appropriate, added commentary in order to add clarity.
This time around, the core rules have five pages of changes. The majority of them are corrections and clarifications to the special rules and who can use which universal rules.
Arcane Journals
This past weekend heralded the release of the third Arcane Journal, giving the Orc & Goblin Tribes two exciting new Armies of Infamy, two special characters, several new units, and loads more brand new content. This expands upon the rules in Ravening Hordes, allowing Orc and Goblin players to enjoy a similar amount of content to the Kingdom of Bretonnia and Tomb Kings of Khemri. Along with full army lists for the nine core factions and Legacy rules for seven more, that’s a lot of content released in a short amount of time for a brand new game and a lot for players to get to grips with!
As with any newly released game, we’ve had plenty of questions from players, and we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has taken the time to get in touch. We’ve genuinely enjoyed receiving feedback via the Old World FAQ inbox.
These aren’t in magenta, as they aren’t changes to an existing sheet. This is the first one, and it’s mainly an errata, meaning GW is just answering questions people had about the rules. They also added a lot of rules to units, such as Countercharge to the Chaos Steed.

Overall, the FAQ is a promising start to what promises to be an exciting new era for Warhammer The Old World. Nothing wild is changing; this is more just GW clarifying everything. The game has a lot of intricacies, so it only makes sense that there would be some questions about the game and how it all works.
Warhammer The Old World First FAQ: (January 23, 2024)
The first Warhammer the Old World FAQ was four pages long. Here are the key highlights from that document that you can compare to the latest document.
There’s plenty more to come from the World of Legend. If you have rules questions, you can email the Warhammer: The Old World team at old-world FAQ @gwplc.com. They won’t respond directly, but your questions will inform what they hope will become a biannual FAQ/errata update.
There are some big ones here; a miscast of 8 or higher affects all the friendly wizards on the table. From this, you can pivot through other units, which is a pretty big deal. You also can’t redirect your charge to a unit outside your maximum charge distance.
If you march, you can’t even use breath weapons, which makes some sense. If you put your cannon on a hill, you can shoot over units, which is pretty cool. Panic is obviously affected by magic and miscast because what’s scarier than seeing your mage buddy explode?
A big one here is that poison doesn’t cause armor bane, so 6s to hit does not affect a wound roll or trigger something like armor bane. A character joining a chariot also does not take out a crew, meaning you get all the attacks, whether it is modeled with all the crew or not.
You can have more than one magical hat, which is pretty awesome, and we would love to see some conversions of models with two giant hats! Lastly, they say you can make small adjustments to keep the games moving. This makes sense, and if you’re playing with friends, don’t be stingy! Let them flee off the battlefield in peace!
Overall, these FAQs should help players get their games running smoothly and without too many disputes on the tabletop!
