How cool would magic be sweeping across the shadeglass features of Warhammer Underworlds? Check out the 3 endless spells we think WHU needs!
Endless spells have become a huge success in Age of Sigmar. With magic now being in Warhammer Underworlds, would it be cool to see endless spells as well?
Warhammer Underworlds has gone from Shadespire and now to Nightvault. One of the latest mechanics of the game has been magic gambit spells. These are cards that are only usable by certain wizards of your warband and are usually pretty powerful. The gambit spells are a “one and done” action that takes up a card slot, however. So with that said, we think we could use a little more value!
Endless Spells in Warhammer Underworlds
To start things off, we have to remember that endless spells in AoS cost points. However, in Warhammer Underworlds, there is no such thing. Each Warband is considered to be on the same playing field power-wise.
In order to keep the power scaled correctly, for endless spells to be put into the game, we’d probably have to see new Warbands come from GW. The whole theme around these Warbands would be to get off a certain kind of endless spell or two that are game-winning. Because these endless spells would be “endless” they would probably be smaller Warbands like three models that aren’t insanely hard to take down.
What Would Be Some Good Endless Spells?
Because Warhammer Underworlds is such a different game from AoS, their behavior would have to be totally different. Starting off, the warband who summoned an endless spell would get to immediately move with it for free. Because they are predatory spells in AOS, the player who didn’t summon the spell could also have the option of spending an activation to move the spell in another direction. (This is a way of balancing out the game because instead of taking damage from the spell, they could sacrifice a movement/attack action and just move the spell in a different direction).
As for some spells that would be useful in-game:
- A lightning orb-type spell that could be placed within three hexes of the caster and have it treat all adjacent hexes as lethal.
- A fireball-type spell that could move three hexes in a straight line and deal two damage to any fighter it touches. (the damage/movement aspect could also be upgraded with other cards potentially).
- Finally, a spell that could heal friendly fighters that were adjacent to it would also be huge for those games that come down to the wire.
As we’ve said before we feel like endless spells definitely have a place for Warhammer Underworlds and its a gold mine GW hasn’t touched on yet. The spells could come printed as Gambit spells so they would at least take up a card slot in the deck and there would be no guarantee of it ever going off.
