Is Drea Renthal Viable Again? Star Wars X-Wing

By Barclay Montgomery | April 13th, 2017 | Categories: Star Wars Tactics, X-Wing 2.0

Is the forgotten Scum Y-Wing Drea Renthal back in the game? We are here to find out with one of the latest new turret options for Star Wars X-Wing.

Drea Renthal is an interesting Y-Wing pilot that can receive a stress token after spending a target lock to acquire a target lock again. This is a some what risky ability that can give you the ability to reroll your dice whenever you like again and again, at the risk of receiving stress tokens. And if you are familiar with a Y-Wing dial, this is problematic. The new turret upgrade that is set to arrive with X-Wing Wave 11 is Synced Turret, and it has synergy with Drea’s ability.

Synced Turret is a range 1-2 turret that fires 3 attack dice, but must have a target lock to attack. That’s ok for Drea, she’s got target locks for days! If the defender is inside your firing arc, however, you may reroll a number of attack dice up to your primary weapon value. So that’s 2 for Drea. Not bad, but we can add some more oomph with Drea’s favorite Astromech.

R4-B11 is a nasty little Unhinged Astromech that allows you to spend  target lock while you are attacking and force the defender to reroll any or all defense dice. That’s a great way to make Drea’s damage stick since defense dice are very fickle. It’s almost a guarantee that those successful evades are going to roll blanks or a focus.

It’s interesting to see what these new upgrades can offer for old ships. Drea Renthal may be back in the limelight! Check back in soon for more X-Wing ships rundowns!
