Hey there X-Wing fanatics! Monty G here again to talk about the new expansion that’s on the way: Imperial Veterans.
In this article, I’ll be focusing on the new tech coming out for the TIE Defender.
The Defender has had an interesting past in X-Wing. The generic pilots of the Defender are 30+ points with no upgrades and the aces can get upwards of 40+ points, so they are a significant investment points wise. Also, as the only ship currently with a white Koiogran turn and only straight green maneuvers, it’s movements became all too predictable. This all changed when the TIE Punisher was released, with the Twin Ion Engine Mk. II upgrade card. This modification makes all banks on a ships maneuver dial green, essentially fixing the Defender’s predictability. But still the steep point investment remains.
A new title card for the Defender that will be arriving in the new Imperial Veterans expansion offers to get more bang for your points
This upgrade acts like a Chardaan Refit for your Defender! You also gain a free evade after executing 3, 4, or 5 maneuvers at the cost of losing your missile and cannon upgrades. But this also allows you to save even more points.
Give them them the TIE/D with this next upgrade card. After you fire with a Flechette or Ion cannon, you can perform a primary weapon attack! This is great offensive output that can also add a control element to your matches. Of course, once the hotly anticipated Tractor Beam gets released, that could be a good fit for the TIE/D as well!
Here are some potential builds that include the new upgrades:
Onyx Squadron Pilot – TIE/x7 + Twin Ion Engine Mk. II = 31 points
Colonel Vessery – Juke + TIE/x7 + Twin Ion Engine Mk. II = 36 points
Rexler Brath – Outmaneuver + TIE/D + Flechette Cannon + Twin Ion Engine Mk. II = 43 points
Which build do you think we will be seeing more? Tune in next time for more X-Wing tactics. Happy flying out there!
