How to Play Leagues of Votann in 10th Edition 40k: Rules Guide Review
The new 10th Edition 40k Leagues of Votann rules come from Warhammer Community.
Kin make war in a careful, deliberate manner. Kâhls and their subordinate Theyns select targets according to a rapid battlefield analysis of their strength, calculating the value of their defeat against the cost of engagement – a process known as ‘casting the Eye of the Ancestors’. Once a suitable foe is chosen, the Leagues of Votann can unleash hell safe in the knowledge that their efforts are well spent.
We assume there are also other special rules to give Judgement Tokens (like below), but if a unit gets two put on them, you should be able to blast them off the table!

Leagues of Votann Oathbound Detachment Rules

This is a giant buff! Not only do you get more options to get your CP early, but four enemy units in a 2000-point game start with two Judgement tokens! This means you hit and wound them at +1, and it helps with the worse BS overall.
The Oathband Detachment takes spite to new levels, allowing you to single out a particular foe for retribution. Their Ruthless Efficiency rewards singular focus with an immense tactical advantage – picking up three free Command points right at the beginning of a battle can shape entire games.
This is very interesting, where you have to balance how hard of a unit to destroy you want to give the tokens to. If you put them on the biggest baddest unit from the enemy, you’ll have a much better shot at destroying them. However, it might take a lot longer, and you’ll get fewer CP.
New 10th Edition Warhammer 40k Leagues of Votann Datasheets
Hearthkyn Warriors boast loads of options, allowing tailored teams to tackle particularly irksome targets. Eagle-eyed Kâhls may notice the addition of the HYLas rotary cannon as a weapon option – straight from the parts-packed sprue of specialist equipment from Kill Team: Gallowfall.
It seems like every army’s line troops are getting the rule to grab an objective and move on, and they will have to kick you off it. Then, they can get a bunch of buffs with the wargear (and some are really sweet), have a vast array of weaponry, and have 5 Toughness! The Autoch-pattern bolter gets two shots but no rapid fire. The EtaCarn plasma beamer is the first D3 sustained hits we’ve seen, which means if you roll a 6, you get D3 extra hits.
The Land Fortress is as tough as a Land Raider and packs a fearsome range of armaments. It’s right at home supporting the troops that bundle out of its hold, and can ruck it up with dedicated tanks from other factions thanks to the impressive power of the heavy magna-rail cannon.
With Toughness 12, a 2+ save, and 16 Wounds, this is quite tough; however, without an invulnerable save and some of the giant guns we have seen, who knows how long it will last?
For weapons, the Cyclic ion cannon is quite strong, with an average of 6 attacks, but the heavy magna-rail cannon is super strong with Strength 18, -4 AP, and an average of 9 damage (but up to 12).
Either way, this is going to have a ton of shots and some really interesting rules, and it can even help units that embarked on it.
New Weapons Rules
Though they possess many advanced technologies, the Leagues of Votann prize reliability over raw power, and don’t carry anything with quite the excess of the Astra Militarum’s volcano cannon. What they do have, though, are their esoteric conversion beam weapons, whose new Conversion ability multiplies their hits several times over once the beam has enough distance to focus.
If you are more than 12″ away, a 4+ hit gives you a critical hit, so pretty interesting. However, where you get juicy is if you can roll a six and get D3 extra hits. With only one shot, though, and not a ton of AP, we’ll have to see how this plays out.
New Stratagems
Judgement tokens aren’t just for improving Hit and Wound rolls – they also interact with Oathband Stratagems to punish transgressors even further. Seeing someone shoot at your allies is bad enough, but when the offending enemy shoots at you… well, the Kin don’t take that very well at all, and a Reactive Reprisal is in order.
Considering you have to have a Judgement Token on them, you’ll be hitting better and possibly wounding better as well, so this could be quite powerful.
Do Leagues of Votann Have Transports?
Absolutely! The Leagues of Votann don’t just roll into battle on foot—they bring their own sweet rides!
They’ve got two beefy transports in their roster: the Hekaton Land Fortress, which is like the Warhammer equivalent of showing up in a tank on steroids, and the Sagitaur, a sleek, fast vehicle perfect for when you need to get your squad somewhere fast and look good doing it. So yeah, the Votann aren’t walking if they don’t have to—they’ve got the heavy-duty wheels to get the job done in style! The Hekaton carries more troops and brings some wild firepower, but the Sagitaur lets you break units up and zip around the board.
Hekaton Land Fortress
The Hekaton Land Fortress is the Leagues of Votann’s ultimate blend of battle tank and armored transport, commanding both fear and respect on the battlefield. This bad boy is packing an array of heavy weapons, like the heavy magna-rail cannon that delivers a devastating punch at 30″ with an eye-popping 18 Strength and up to D6+6 damage. If that’s not enough firepower for you, it also comes with blast weapons like the cyclic ion cannon and Hekaton warhead, so the Hekaton’s arsenal isn’t just big—it’s versatile.
Now, onto its more practical feature: its transport capacity. This beast can carry 12 Leagues of Votann Infantry into battle, and if your squad’s rocking Exo-armour, they’ll take up two slots each. Exo-frame models? Those hefty guys will need three. So, whether it’s bringing your troops into the fight or acting as a mobile fortress, the Hekaton Land Fortress is a rolling wall of guns and armor.
And don’t forget—thanks to its Fire Support ability, anyone hopping out after a ride gets a little help taking down targets the Fortress has already hit, allowing for re-rolls on Wound rolls. It’s basically a party bus with guns
Sagitaur
The Sagitaur is the ultimate rugged ATV for the Leagues of Votann—perfect for scouting missions, swift strikes, and surviving whatever nasty alien threats the galaxy throws its way. Despite being relatively compact, this thing packs a surprising punch, capable of taking on enemy battle tanks with ease thanks to weapons like the HYLas beam cannon or the Sagitaur missile launcher (which can dish out some serious pain with 12 Strength at 36″ range).
When it comes to transport duties, the Sagitaur is built for speed and efficiency. It can carry up to 6 Leagues of Votann Infantry, making it great for quick expeditionary teams. However, no room for the big boys in Exo-armour or Exo-frames—they’ll have to find another ride. But here’s where it gets cool: you can split a Hearthkyn Warriors unit into two 5-man squads at the start of a battle, one hopping in the Sagitaur and the other in another transport or deployed separately.
With its Blistering Advance ability, the Sagitaur lets your squad disembark even after it has Advanced, giving you the flexibility to keep moving while still acting like a regular squad—just no charging that turn. Perfect for keeping the fight mobile and dynamic, it’s a tough, multi-tasking little beast!

Is It Still Worth Playing Leagues of Votann?
Let’s face it: Squats are cool and hold so much nostalgia for so many people! We’re assuming GW will come out with another wave of miniatures and fill out the line, but even the minis they have look great and are really fun to hobby on.
With the most recent Dataslate changes, they have actually catapulted to a 55% win rate in the tournament scene! So not only do they look awesome, but they are doing well in the meta.
Updates, in general, for any game are just good business. That being said, it also seems like in 2023-2024, GW will have its hands full trying actually to get out all these codexes.
However, Leagues of Votann isn’t even on the list for 10th Edition Warhammer 40k, meaning you will have to use the index for a while and wait on the codex, which gives you plenty of time to learn the faction before the codex drops.
The new Leagues of Votann army rules in 10th Edition Warhammer 40k provide exciting changes to the gameplay, rules, and style of the army. Votann can dominate the battlefield with their toughness and super-powerful weapons! The army’s squads, vehicles, and Stratagems provide players with a lot of options to defeat their enemies and have some really fun games. With 10th Edition Warhammer 40k being such a big rework for GW, the Leagues of Votann have a little to wait for their codex, but overall, the new Leagues of Votann army is a force to be reckoned with in Warhammer 40k.
