Start building your new army lists with the latest 10th Edition Warhammer 40k Munitorum Field Manual points updates and changes from October!
Updated November 21st, 2024, by Rob Baer with new information and links to relevant content.
We’ve all seen the latest datasheets, army rules, codex books, and index cards. Now, with the 10th Edition Warhammer 40k points update, you can make new lists, as the balance of the game is in flux once again. Here is our breakdown of all the latest 10th Edition Warhammer 40k Munitorum Field Manual points changes from October 16th, 2024.
October 2024 Updates
Maybe just as important as the points, Games Workshop said they will now only be doing 40k Balance Dataslate updates every other quarter (initially, they said every quarter), while points changes will be every quarter. However, to make things even more muddled, they mentioned that a new Balance Dataslate would be coming “later this year,” which seems to indicate a potential December 2024 release, perhaps to be legal for events like LVO 2025.
Our next update later this year (2024) will bring a Balance Dataslate alongside an updated Munitorum Field Manual, as well as any further additions that may be needed to the FAQ and Errata
Let’s start with the 10th Edition Munitorum Field Manual Warhammer 40k points update winners and losers, and then get into the specifics.
Buffed Factions:
- Aeldari: Points reductions for Falcons, Fire Prisms, Wraithblades, and Corsairs. Slight meta advantage due to other factions’ nerfs.
- Chaos Daemons: Shalaxi and Beasts of Nurgle received point drops, keeping the faction steady in the current meta.
- Chaos Knights: Abominants, Desecrators, Despoilers, and War Dogs all saw point reductions, making lists more efficient.
- Death Guard: Point drops for Mortarion, Deathshroud Terminators, and Biologus Putrifier help free up space in lists.
- Genestealer Cults: Point drops for Aberrants, Acolytes, and Neophytes, giving the army more bodies on the table.
- Leagues of Votann: Minor buffs with point drops for Hearthguard and minor nerfs to Yaegirs, keeping the faction balanced.
- Orks: Major point reductions for key units like Boyz, Deff Dreads, and Kill Rigs, making the horde much more viable.
- T’au Empire: Kroot units got cheaper, while Riptides only saw a slight point increase, leaving them in a good spot.
- Chaos Space Marines: Abaddon, Obliterators, and Terminators saw point drops, improving internal balance for the faction.
NERF-ed Factions:
- Drukhari: Point increases for key units like Drazhar, Archons, and Incubi, forcing lists to be more streamlined.
- Thousand Sons: Substantial point increases for Ahriman, Magnus, and key units like Rubrics and Mutalith Vortex Beasts.
- World Eaters: Point hikes for Angron, Master of Executions, and Chaos Spawn make list-building tighter.
- Adepta Sororitas: Significant point hikes for Triumph of Saint Katherine, Castigators, Immolators, and Dominions.
- Chaos Cultist Lists: Accursed Cultists and Dark Commune received point increases, making these popular builds less viable.
Full Warhammer 40k Munitorium Field Manual Points Changes Update
Alright, buckle up because it’s that time again – the Munitorium Field Manual has dropped some fresh points changes, and things are about to get interesting! These are the latest 10th Edition Warhammer 40k Munitorum Field Manual points updates and changes that are legal for play right now!
Adepta Sororitas Point Changes
The Adepta Sororitas came in strong but got hit hard in this update. The Triumph of Saint Katherine went up 60 points, Immolators, Dominions, and Castigators got pricier, and even their Cherub tricks took a nerf. Bringers of Flame players are feeling the burn with no real compensation, and while Battle Sisters got a 10-point drop, the vibe is all pain, no gain.
Old Points from June 2024
Adeptus Custodes Points Updates
Custodes players were hoping for more, but the 10-point drop for Trajann Valoris feels like a consolation prize after his nerfs. Minor point cuts for Dreadnoughts and Vertus Praetors are nice, but nothing game-changing. The Custodes remain an elite, low-model-count army, and this update doesn’t shake things up much.
Old Index Points from June 2024
Adeptus Mechanicus Points
Adeptus Mechanicus was climbing, but this update might trip them up. Key units like Ironstriders and Pteraxii got pricier, while less-loved ones like Electro-Priests and Dunecrawlers got slight cuts. Tech-Priests got a tiny discount, but it’s not enough to balance the cost hike on core units. The big question: will these buffs obscure units actually spark new builds?
Old Points from June 2024
Aeldari Points Update
The Aeldari are finally catching a break after their overpowered 10th Edition debut. This update is more of a nudge than a smack, with point drops for favorites like Falcons, Fire Prisms, Wave Serpents, and even the infamous Wraithknight. Corsairs also got cheaper, making them great budget scouts. On the downside, the Yncarne’s teleport got nerfed, and the Autarch’s strategic tricks took a slight hit. But overall, it’s a much-needed breather for the space elves.
Old Points from June 2024
Agents of The Imperium
They only get a single change, so nothing too wild from the Codex release.
Old points pre-codex from June 2024
Astra Militarum Points
The Tank Commander finally got its much-needed buff with the Squadron keyword, letting it boss itself around—but it comes with a 20-point price hike. Bullgryns also took a heavy hit, jumping 20 to 40 points, making them less appealing. While Scout Sentinels and Heavy Weapons Squads got cheaper, the Astra Militarum still feels the sting from the key nerfs, making this update a net negative.
Old Points from June 2024
Black Templars Points Updates
After three points updates with only NERFS, this time, they at least get a couple of buffs… but they are getting hit once again with point increases.
Old Points from June 2024
Blood Angels Points
These are their true points for the codex, so we can’t say NERFs or buffs because we know GW never really releases the codex with the correct points.
Pre-codex points from June 2024
Chaos Daemons Points
Chaos Daemons got a few nice points drops in this update. Shalaxi is now 25 points cheaper, making her murder-spree more affordable, and Beasts of Nurgle also got a small discount for those wanting to spam the board with slimy regenerating beasts. But Khorne fans will grumble over Rendmasters, who are going up 15 points.
Chaos Knights Points
Chaos Knights have been struggling, but this update throws them a bone. Abominants, Desecrators, and Despoilers got solid point drops, and fan-favorite War Dog variants like Brigands and Stalkers are 5 points cheaper. While it’s not a game-changer, it definitely adds some flexibility for more competitive lists.
Chaos Space Marines Points:
Chaos Space Marines got a lot of point tweaks, with Abaddon dropping 15 points, making him even scarier. Obliterators, Havocs, and Terminators also saw small cuts, helping balance things out. But Accursed Cultists and Dark Commune got pricier, so expect a shake-up in those top-tier builds!
Dark Angels Points
The Deathwing Knights are getting a second increase in a row, but pretty much everything Ravenwing gets a decrease. So time to start building an army around them!
10th Edition 40k Dataslate Death Guard Points
Death Guard are slowly creeping back into the game. Mortarion dropped 25 points, making him more tempting, and Deathshroud Terminators got cheaper, too, so we might see more of these elite bodyguards. Along with some tweaks to Typhus, these changes give Death Guard a nice little boost!
Old Points from June 2024
Deathwatch Points
There are no changes as they are in the Imperial Agents codex. However, GW did say they would get their own update.
Old Points from June 2024
Drukhari Points
The Drukhari have been dominating with their speed and melee, but this update hits where it hurts—Incubi and character-heavy builds. Drazhar, Archons, and Incubi got point hikes, dulling the Dark Kin’s “blade.” Hellions got a small discount, but it’s not enough to shake up their strategy.
Genestealer Cults Points
GSC fans, celebrate—your sneaky boys just got a lot cheaper! Core units like Aberrants, Acolytes, Neophytes, and even the Patriarch saw point drops, with Atalan Jackals becoming an even bigger bargain. These cuts make their ambush tactics deadlier, adding durability and flexibility to their regenerating, swarmy style!
Grey Knights Points Changes For 10th Edition 40k
Grey Knights are grinning after this update! Brotherhood Terminators, Paladins, and Purgation Squads all got 10-point drops, making them even more efficient. They were already strong, so these cuts feel like a bonus, especially with their teleporting tricks. Grey Knights are looking like a serious top-tier threat now!
Imperial Knights Points
Imperial Knights got some small point drops, with Knight Errant and Knight Castellan becoming more affordable. It’s not game-changing, but it makes the bigger knights more viable, especially if you’re trying to pack a bit more punch into a smaller list.
Leagues of Votann Points
The Leagues of Votann are still going strong with just a few tweaks. Hernkyn Yaegirs got a small hike, but Hearthguard got a nice points drop, possibly bringing the “Dwarven Terminators” back into play. Overall, Votann stay solid as a mid-tier force, especially with top armies taking nerfs.
Necrons Points
Necrons, chilling as a solid second-tier faction, got some fun point tweaks. Annihilation Barges, Catacomb Command Barges, and Triarch Praetorians got cheaper, while Monoliths and Tesseract Vaults went up a bit. These changes, along with Obeisance Phalanx adjustments, should give their mid-tier game a nice boost.
10th Edition 40k Orks Points
Orks have been struggling, but this update throws them a lifeline with big point drops! Boyz, Deff Dreads, Kill Rigs, and Meganobz all got cheaper, setting the stage for the green tide to rise again. Plus, Waaagh! rules got clarified, making Orks even more unpredictable on the battlefield.
Space Marines Points
The Q4 2024 update puts Space Marines in a tricky spot. Ultramarines, especially Roboute Guilliman, got big buffs with point drops, but popular combos like Fire Discipline and Eradicators took a hit. Some lesser-used units got cheaper, but overall, it’s a mix of buffs and nerfs depending on your playstyle.
Space Wolves Points
Like the last update, they get both buffs and NERFS, and it seems like GW is still unsure how to get the faction exactly where they want them.
Tau Points
The T’au dodged major nerfs, with only Riptides getting a small hike. Meanwhile, Kroot Carnivores and Leaders got cheaper, making the speedy Kroot units more appealing. Plus, the Puretide Engram Chip got a buff, giving T’au commanders a tactical boost.
Thousand Sons Points
Thousand Sons got slammed in this update. Ahriman, the Infernal Master, and Magnus all saw point hikes, with Magnus now at a hefty 465 points. Even Rubric Marines got pricier in small squads, so players will need to get creative with their lists to adjust to these nerfs.
Tyranids Points
Tyranids stay strong after this update, with Winged Hive Tyrants, Von Ryan’s Leapers, and Carnifexes getting cheaper. Pyrovores and Lictors saw slight hikes, but overall, minor rule tweaks won’t slow them down—Tyranids will keep swarming the tabletop!
World Eaters Points
World Eaters took a few hits in this update. Angron went up 20 points, with the Master of Executions and Chaos Spawn seeing minor increases too. It’s not a game-breaker, but for an army with limited units, every point counts. They’ll still hit hard, but fitting everything in just got a bit trickier.
All the latest 10th Edition 40k Munitorium Field Manual points changes are available here! Don’t forget, as we talked about above, GW is changing things up and will only update the 40k Balance Dataslate every other quarter and these points every quarter. That means we’ll have to wait until at least December or January 2025 for the next update.
Either way, that’s a wrap on our discussion of the latest 10th Edition Warhammer 40k Munitorum Field Manual points update and changes! It’s obvious that the game’s balance is shifting once again with these updates. Whether your favorite army got stronger or weaker, it’s an exciting time to adjust and come up with new strategies based on the updated points and balance dataslate.
