The First Whirlwind Kit- 40k Flashback

By Rob Baer | January 18th, 2014 | Categories: 40k Flashback, Space Marines

Welcome to 40k Flashback, where I dig deep for something cool that I have or have seen from back in the day. Which according to the comic Dane Cook was a Wednesday…

Behold the Mk1 Whirlwind, with 1990’s box art from Games Workshop’s “Red” period.  This was a hybrid pewter plastic kit as back then it was cheaper to spin cast pewter components rather than make a multi part plastic sprue.

This was a step up from the convert a missile launcher using bic pens conversion that the White Dwarf featured before this kit was available.

There are some examples below of similar kits as well. The whirlwind went for $16-$25 during this period, and I think its near $50 now. -MBG
