New Guard Pics: Minis or Conversions?

Astra Militarum Codex Wal HorWe recently got a look at Games Workshop’s upcoming pre-orders and there were some interesting pictures of Guard minis in their announcement.

Could we be seeing new minis coming out for the Imperial Guard alongside the new Astra Militarum codex? Games Workshop showed off three interesting looking regimental miniatures  in this week’s pre-orders announcement.

Let’s take a look the minis and a little background on what we know about their regiments courtesy of Lexicanum.

Indigan Praefects

The Indigan Praefects are a new regiment for the Astra Militarum, and very little is know about where they hail from, or what their specialties are.

Savlar Chem Dogs

The Chem-Dogs were conscripted into the Imperial Guard en masse in order to meet the Imperium’s desperate need for troops during the Third War for Armageddon. Originally founded by Judge Callistar to put down an armed uprising on their homeworld, he realised the Chem-Dogs could be made into an effective fighting force with the right motivation. Therefore the Chem-Dogs were given the following directives: they could keep any war loot they took off the enemy, but if they broke the law they would be sent back to Savlar.

Savlar Chem-Dogs excel in fighting in the cramped, noxious battlefields found in Armageddon’s Underhives. They are also notorious thieves, scavengers, anarchists and worst, stopping to strip the dead of their valuables in the midst of battle, while many inhale a type of altered gas which puts them into a hyper-aggressive state. For this reason, Chem-Dog regiments include Commissars to watch over them. Chem-Dog regiments also make use of Ogryns and Rough Riders, the latter riding into battle on ungainly beasts native to Savlar and sometimes forming their own regiments of Chem-Riders.

Ventrillian Nobles

Just like the Indigan Praefects there is very little known about where their homeworld is, or what their specialties are. But something tells us we’ll be seeing more of both of these regiments in the new codex.

Games Workshop gave us a little bit of hint as to whether these are new minis or conversions.

It’s not just about rules, either – the new codex contains loads of new background and art, including a look at some of the more unusual regiments of the 41st Millennium and advice on how you might want to convert them.

A poster Reddit. to show that these are definitely not new models, but conversions from existing kits. Parts list as seen on Reddit.

  • Ventrillian Nobles Conversion Recipe: Cadian Shock Troops gun and legs, Freeguild Greatswords sword, Militarum Tempestus Scions body, Land Speeder Storm pack, Freeguild Pistoliers head.
  • Savlar Chem-Dogs Conversion Recipe: Neophyte Hybrids head and body, everything else is Cadian Command Squad.
  • Indigan Praefects Conversion Recipe: Skitarii Vanguard head, Leman Russ/Chimera shoulder pads, Cadian Command Squad pack, Militarum Tempestus Scions body, Neophyte Hybrids legs and gun.

We’re getting a look at three minis we haven’t seen before. The Indigan Praefects, Savlar Chem-Dogs, and Ventrillian Nobles look like they would be great additions alongside a new codex, but of course GW threw in a little twist to keep up guessing: ” including a look at some of the more unusual regiments of the 41st Millennium and advice on how you might want to convert them”.

Conversion or not, these are three fantastic looking minis.

What do you think?
