Airbrushed Star Wars HelmetsToday we’re going to be taking a look at some amazingly painted Star Wars helmets and getting some insight on the project from the artist himself.

Patrick Johnson over at Patrix Graphix has been doing custom paint jobs on everything from longboard skateboards to motorcycles, and everything in between for over 13 years. We recently came across some custom Star Wars helmets he did and we just had to share it. Let’s take a closer look at the cosplay helmet and see what he had to say about it.

Well, where to begin? I’m an artist that is expanding my reach, I love automotive art, I’ve been in the craft for 13 years running, and I find there are many other platform’s that I can explore in my artistry. In saying that, last year I was commissioned for a custom paint job on a Harley Davidson and later found out that my customer was a dedicated Star Wars fan, and he also commissioned me to do a motorcycle helmet as a rebel pilot helmet.

Matte finish, before clear coat.

Me being a fan myself I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to participate in a Star Wars related paint job. He loved the helmet so much that in designing his cosplay costume for Comic-Con he commissioned me to do the same design on his cosplay helmet. I’m a perfectionist, so when seeing the raw helmet I touched all pieces, brought them up to my standards, and molded the three-piece seams together. I smoothed out other imperfections before starting on the artwork.

After clear coat was applied.

All in all I spent close to 28 hours on this piece, and it definitely shows in every way. I have a time-lapse video showing the painting process. Please enjoy the video and imagine what other mediums you can do whether it being anything from miniatures to large-scale signage.

I am very well-rounded and passionate with my art so if anyone is interested in commissioning a piece please feel free to contact me on my Patrix Graphix Facebook business page.

Want to see the entire project from start to finish? You can see the rest of the pictures here, but in the meantime check out the time lapse video.

We were completely amazed by the high level of detail he was able to accomplish with this Cosplay helmet. Pat let us know that he never uses any pre made stencils, he creates every single stencil he uses by hand. He truly captured what one would imagine a flashy Rebel flyboy’s helmet would look like. You can see why the owner of these helmets immediately wanted him to do the cosplay helmet after seeing the amazing work he did on the motorcycle helmet.

Patrick has taken his love for art and created a lot of great pieces of work on all sorts of different objects. Make sure you head over to Patrix Graphix, give him a follow, and check out all of his other amazing work while you’re there.

What do you think about the Rebel pilot helmet?  Is this something you want sitting on your shelf? If so he’s currently accepting commissions and he’s more than happy to bring your ideas to life.
