27 new Stratagems are on the way for the Adeptus Custodes! Games Workshop just gave us another rules preview, come check out the new rules Stratagem previews.
The new Adeptus Custodes codex is on its way, and this week Games Workshop is giving us previews of what we’ll be seeing inside the covers. Let’s take a look at what they had to say about it, some of the new Stratagems.
Thanks to the new Codex: Adeptus Custodes, you’ll be able to represent this tactical mastery with no fewer than 27 Stratagems, providing new opportunities for matched play gamers to outsmart their foes, giving narrative fans thematic ways to roleplay with their army and even offering a sneaky reference or two to Rogue Trader…
Concussion Grenades is 1 CP and it’s used in your Shooting phase when choosing a unit of Allarus Custodians from your army to attack. It’s going to drop their balistus grenade launchers AP to 0, but Infantry units that are hit by these attacks are stunned until the end of the turn. They will not be able to fire Overwatch and get a -1 to all hits rolls made for that unit.
Even in Death is going to be a great way to get that one last shot off after you model has been defeated. For 2 CPs you’ll be able to attack with a slain model before removing it from the table. You can either shoot as if it were the Shooting phase, or fight as if it were the Fight phase. With 4 new HQ options minimum, this looks promising.
Shield-Captains are going to be the focus of the Shoulder Mantle. For 1 CP, after your Warlord is slain, you can choose a Shield-Captain on the battlefield from your army to become your Warlord. You’ll choose, or generate, a Warlord Trait for them, and for the purpose of the mission your Warlord is not considered slain whilst this mini is on the table. Sounds like two Warlords for 1 CP to us. We saw this in their live stream previews yesterday.
Avenge the Fallen is showing just how much harder the Adeptus Custodes fight when one of their brethren falls on the battlefield. This Stratagem costs 1 CP and it’s used when you select a unit of Adeptus Custodes unit from your army to attack in the Fight phase. The Attacks characteristic of each model in that unit is increased by 1, for each model from that unit that was slain this turn, until the end of the phase.
Last but not least, Avatars of the Emperor. For 1 CP you’ll choose a non-Vehicle Adeptus Custodes unit from your army at the beginning of the Morale phase. You’ll be able to use that unit’s Leadership characteristic when taking Morale tests for friendly Imperium units within 6″ of that unit in that phase.
There are some really nice Stratagems that have been previewed throughout the week, and these were just the icing on the cake. But wait! There’s more! There’s a total of 27 Stratagems that will be coming in the new Codex, some of which were discussed in GW’s live stream previews yesterday.
All in all this preview is making the Adeptus Custodes look extremely intimidating on the tabletop. Make sure you check back in with us tomorrow when GW previews some new Warlord Traits and Relics, which will be our final preview for the Adeptus Custodes.
