GW Confirms Space Marines Adventures & Blitz Bowl

Ultramarine Wal HorGames Workshop just confirmed that there will be two new games coming out later this year, Space Marine Adventures and Blitz Bowl. Come find out the latest.

As we reported yesterday, Games Workshop was at the New York Toy Fair over the weekend showing off two brand new games that will be coming our way soon. Space Marine Adventures: Labirynth of the Necrons and Blitz Bowl will both be out later this year. Let’s take a look at what they had to say about them.

We have some news for you today out of the New York Toy Fair, where we’ve been previewing some upcoming boxed games. 2 new games no less, each a great introduction to our settings and games. Especially in the USA and Canada, we know that many players’ first experience of Games Workshop will be stumbling across one of our games in their local independent store, and these 2 new boxes have been created with that in mind – to be great self-contained sets, with everything you need to play included.

Blitz Bowl

Blitz Bowl is a new way to play Blood Bowl. The teams are smaller, the games are faster but the action is just as intense, as each player seeks to distinguish themselves in the eyes of Nuffle*  in the infamous Crush recruitment rituals in fast-paced skirmish games.

We saw news of this new game yesterday as well from Board Game Geek.

Blitz Bowl

Blitz Bowl is an introductory version of Blood Bowl bearing a 40-minute playing time that’s coming from Games Workshop in 2018.

Apparently this is an introductory game designed for coaches who don’t have time to play full-on BB, new coaches looking to get into the game, or younger folk who aren’t ready to learn the rules of the main game.

A 40-minute version of Blood Bowl sounds like it would be perfect for those time you want to get a game in, but only have an hour or less. Blood Bowl is already an easy enough game to learn, but having a shortened version is perfect for getting new players more experience faster, and we look forward to finding out more.

Games Workshop also confirmed their new Space Marine Adventures game as well, which appears to feature models that are in similar poses to ones from the Space Marine Heroes I Collection.

Space Marine Adventures Necrons

Space Marine Adventures allows 1-4 players to join forces and attempt to break into a Necron labyrinth. Choose your hero and use each character’s unique skills to battle various deadly hazards, not least of which are the Necron guardians themselves. The easy-build nature of the kits and intuitive game make it suitable for players aged 8 and over – good for anything from family games nights to a quick adventure for a regular gaming club. While this set is a great introduction to the 41st Millennium, each Space Marine in the set is also a unique and dynamic sculpt, making them great additions to an existing collection, too.

Labirynth of the Necrons also was spotted yesterday, and now today we got a better look at the contents, and a little more information courtesy of Reddit.

Labirynth of Necrons

So Labyrinth of the Necrons, which was first spotted yesterday, is going to be a new Space Marine Adventures game featuring the Blood Angels, Ultramarines, Space Wolves, Salamanders, and Imperial Fists. It’s actually a surprisingly small game board now that we see the whole thing. These images are from the GW booth at the Toy Fair that took place over the weekend.

Games Workshop did not provide a release date for these new box sets, just that they would be out later this year. Both of these games are designed to be played in a short amount of time which works out perfectly for teaching new players the game, or when you only have a limited amount of time to get a game in.

Be sure to look for Games Workshop to hit the states again later this year for the Las Vegas Licensing Expo where they put their IP out there for companies to develop products for the upcoming retail season.

Last year was a busy year for Games Workshop, they attended four different expos trying to spread the reach of their products. Can we expect the same thing this year?
