The venerable Assault Frigate has been in the fight since the first days of Armada. This medium ship is still going strong in the top lists!

Still In the Fight: Star Wars Armada

The Assault Frigate has been around since the start of Armada. This medium ship is so versatile, it’s still giving the Empire a hard time whenever it faces off with Star Destroyers. For its points investment, it has a solid 6 hull, 12 shields, and can take a beating before it finally goes down, all the while returning fire back at the Empire.

Most Rebel admirals prefer to have this ship as a squadron carrier rather than a gun boat, but we’re going for a little bit of both with this build. Gunnery Team

Gunnery Team is a great investment on this ship, which favors its side arcs. Gunner Team allows you to effectively fire out of your best hull zones twice in a round, at 2 different ships of course. This allows the Assault Frigate to circle the battle and provide covering fire from its side arc upon 2 enemy ships.

This also creates distance between it and the enemy, which can keep it alive much longer with its defense tokens. But 3 red dice can be unreliable. Let’s fix that. Dual Turbolaser Turrets

Dual Turbolaser Turrets allow you to exhaust it while attacking, and add 1 red die to your attack pool. Then remove 1 die from the attack pool. This can help your fickle red dice hit more often. Rolled 1 hit, 1 crit, and a blank? Use DTTs to roll in another die, roll a hit, and then remove your blank. Easy and effective! Boosted Comms

Now that we have covered its firepower let’s add on to the carrier element. Since the Assault Frigate will want to keep its distance, Boosted Comms will allow it to command squadrons from afar. Long range to be more precise. This effectively extends the Assault Frigate’s reach even further and can be used with squadrons to attack enemy ships or fighters. E-wing Squadron

Since the Assault Frigate has a squadron value of 3, go with 3 E-Wings for your general purpose fighters. These Bomber squadrons can move at distance 4, have a healthy hull of 5, and can Snipe enemies at distance 2 with 3 blue dice. Not a bad package for these squadrons.

Once they destroy your enemy’s fighter screen, they can start harassing enemy ships, all the while being bombarded at long range from the Assault Frigate. This is what keep this relic of a ship relevant in today’s Armada game!
