Check out some hot values for the reboot of Lord of The Rings and the Middle Earth Strategy Game & as we review the launch releases!

Lord of the Rings is back and in a big way with a brand new gaming system and brand new Starter set. Let’s take a look and see what comes in this first wave including the epically huge Battle of Pelennor Fields, and see what values await your hobby dollars.

Value wise, we broke down the new box set values previously in an article when the set was announced. We have updated it as well since doing this review based on the actual contents.

Long story short, there is nearly $400 in retail value in this $150 MSRP starter set!

LOTR Dice Big Value: Battle of Pelennor Fields & LoTR Releases

First, out of the gate, we get a look at the new LotR Dice. These dice are a great way to show where your allegiance lies on the tabletop.

However, they are not needed to get started in this game and at $12.50 for eight dice, may not be for everyone.Measurement Tools LOTR

Then we get into the Measurement Tools Set for this new game system. Now, this kit seems to be the chunkier plastic, as it is made in China, so be careful when clipping this one off the sprue.

That being said it might be a blessing on the tabletop because your templates will be more robust and withstand more punishment being the thicker plastic.

LOTR Army book

The new LotR Armies Book comes with a lot of data sheets, 202, pages of data sheets to be exact. Along with scenarios to get you started in your Lord of the Rings battles. As well as a very familiar looking allies matrix if you played 6th edition 40k.

This book does not come in the Battle of Pelennor Fields starter set.Pelennor Sprues

Last but not least, we crack open the new Battle of Pelennor Fields starter set. Now the first thing you might notice is that for the most part, these are not new sculpts. The majority of these miniatures around 15 years old.

That being said, they are a great way to get your army on the tabletop fast and are very easy for someone who might be just starting out in the hobby. This box comes with two armies, a hardcover rulebook, and has everything to get you started on your Lord of the Rings adventure including custom scenarios.

Probably one of the coolest things about this new set is the newly redesigned plastic Theoden model on foot and mount.

We can’t wait to see all your painted LotR miniatures over in our Hobbies Facebook Group! Make sure you check out our Lord of the Rings unboxing video below!
