New Orks Models & Speed Freeks Box SPOTTED

speed freeks orks GW's Fall Release Roadmap? Grots, Orks, Rogue Trader & Primarchs

Don’t miss these super spy images of the new Orks and Speed Freeks models that are getting closer and closer as we move deeper into Orktober.

Games Workshop dropped a preview of the new Ork Speed Freeks Box Set that is bringing two new models to the Orks faction. There was also a video on YouTube that shows all the new Speed Freeks models on display.

There are a few key things we noticed about these new models that are very interesting….

Game in the Box Set

We’ve covered Speed Freeks before, but to recap, this high-orktane racing game pits you against a friend in brutal death races on the surface of Vigilus – or any other world where Orks, Meks and their madcap inventions can be found.

In the box, you’ll find the rules, tokens and templates you need to play, plus six Warbikes and two of the new Ork buggies, exclusive to this set.

Speed Freeks is fully compatible with all the other new the Ork buggies, too, meaning you’ll be able to expand your game to feature Megatrakk Scrapjets, Deffkilla Wartrikes et al with ease. For the models inside alone, the set is a cracking deal – basically, it’s a great way to start collecting your Speedwaaagh!, with the added bonus of being a brilliant standalone game.

You’ll be able to pre-order Speed Freeks on the 20th of October for delivery on October 27th

An In-Depth Look at Speed Freeks

Speed Freeks is going to be ushering in an era of Ork players racing down the battlefield in souped-up “vehicles” punishing the enemy with dakka and Guardsmen-grinding jet turbines.

The Megatrakk Scrapjet is the latest model we’ve seen revolving around Speed Freeks. This model does NOT disappoint. We’ve never seen anything close to the aesthetics of this model for anything in Warhammer. It makes you wonder exactly what kind of rules it will have.

GW has slowly been releasing models from the Box set over the past couple of weeks. Take a peek at some of the other Orkish racers.

New Orks Models & Speed Freeks Box SPOTTED

DISCLAIMER: This video is 100% “Potato” quality like some commenters have already pointed out. You’ve been warned.

Security on cameras and phones must’ve been tight at that event. The filmer was forced to record the video with his toothbrush. Regardless, there’s still a lot we need to talk about. Going by the video, we know that:

  • The vehicles are on what looks to be 170mm Oval Knight bases
  • All of the models are a little bit bigger than we thought (hence the Knight bases).

Now that we’ve got a better idea of the size of these models, there are even more questions being asked.

  • Why are vehicles now on bases all of the sudden?
  • What’s the stat line on a vehicle that’s sitting on a Knight base?
  • Will these be a Fast Attack or Heavy Support option?
  • Is the red one the fastest?

In all seriousness, it’s odd that these vehicles are going to be on bases now. Could it be because the vehicles would be too powerful if they were able to squeeze through tighter spots of the map? Maybe they did this to balance out the game some.

In case you forgot, GW stores were actually told to return certain Ork things back to headquarters recently for an unknown reason.

They were specifically told to ship back:

  • Battlewagon
  • Trukk
  • Boyz
  • Warbikes

With three out of the four models listed being vehicles, could GW be sliding bases into the boxes and then shipping them back out to stores? Will Boyz be getting bigger bases too? We’ll just have to wait and see!

What do you think of Speed Freeks so far? Did you think they would be so big they would need Knight bases? What kind of stat line do you think they’ll have? Let us know in the comments of our Facebook Hobby Group.
