WHU Godsworn Hunt Warband Rules & Tactics

darkoath nightvault

The Godsworn Hunt is a Warband full of fast-moving glass cannon Barbarians. These guys can do some real damage if you leave one or two unchecked.

Games Workshop revealed the rules for the Godsworn Hunt Warband after Mollog’s Mob. Bottom line, these guys are fast and hit hard but they can die very easily. It’s important to get the charge with these guys and fight first whenever possible. Let’s check out what they’ve got up their sleeve.

Theddra Skull-Scryer

theddra

The leader of the Godsworn Hunt is Theddra Skull-scryer – a powerful wizard who’s best kept at the back of the board casting spells and making the occasional opportunistic attack.

Theddra is a spellcaster who’s actually got some real speed built in. She can move a total of four hexes. Her speed is definitely best-used defensively. She’s only got three wounds and only rolls one dodge dice. (Essentially, she can get krumped by just about anything in the game). Keep her back and sling some spells in the enemy’s direction!

Grundann Blood-Eye

Grundann is a faster fighter who can connect with an enemy model surprisingly fast. He gets inspired by having some kind of upgrade (Just like everyone else in the Warband) and moves a whopping five hexes. With doing a base three damage when he’s inspired, he can easily do lethal one-shotting depending on what the upgrade was that you placed on him.

Jagathra

jagathra

Jagathra is a really interesting fighter that can make one nifty shot with her javelin, after which she must resort to melee combat. However, the range and power of this attack are great for running down a retreating foe or grabbing a crucial kill.

Jagathra may not seem like “all that”. She can only do one damage base and only throw her spear once per game. However, Jagathra could be upgraded to do enough damage to snipe a weaker model completely off the board in one-shot. She’s perfect for picking off someone trying to retreat back to safety.

Shond Head-Claimer

Shond is unique simply because when he gets inspired, he gets a shield for his armor save. That’s huge in terms of survivability. He’s got some decent speed and gets three attacks doing two damage a pop once he’s inspired too. All in all, he’s a well-rounded dude that could bump chests with some other great Warband’s champions.

Ollo

ollo

Ollo is a decent ranged fighter, capable of damaging opponents at a distance. While his attacks might not be very powerful, he has a huge threat range, thanks to his high Move characteristic, making him great for finishing off weakened fighters.

Combining Ollo and Jagathra together can be enough to pick off an enemy quick or even deny a section of the board. His attacks leave something to be desired, but he’s got a fast movement speed and a three-hex range for his bow. To add icing on the cake, he gets to roll two dice when he’s making a save for being inspired. It’s not much considering you’re still looking for dodge symbols…but it’s something.

Grawl

Grawl

Grawl is really just a unit designed to be a speed bump for the enemy model you don’t want to have to deal with right away. He can also stay back and hold an objective if you need your better fighters up at the frontline. Don’t expect this guy to win you any games on his own.

Godsworn Hunt Cards

One of the secret weapons in Godsworn Hunt decks is Oath objectives – high-scoring variations on standard objectives, with a crucial twist. By revealing that you have an Oath at the start of the action phase, you’ll get extra glory – but now, the enemy will know what you’re trying to accomplish! These cards are great for messing with your opponent’s head – revealing Oath of Murder, for example, is a great way to discourage them from getting stuck in with their leader.

If you couldn’t tell by now, the GodswornHunt is fueled by upgrades being spread across every fighter. They’ve got some upgrades that are designed to get a few of your key fighters beefed up early on. That way, you can get your glory-gaining ball rolling almost immediately.

All in all, a player using the Godsworn Hunt Warband is looking to snowball early game and mop the floor with the enemy fairly quickly. These guys can get out of control if they have a strong early game. However, if a few key fighters get taken out of action quickly, the Warband is a lot more prone to falling apart. These guys are literal glass cannons.
