Female sculpts have been growing in popularity across Games Workshop and Forge World’s ranges. With an entire-female Necromunda gang getting all-new models as well as Sisters of Battle getting completely rebooted, these are exciting times for fans of female minis. It may surprise you though that GW has been in the business of making female Warhammer 40k minis for years!
Check out these top female models we’ve seen from the 1980s to today!
Gabs & Jayne Female Warriors in Power Armor
Blowing the dust off of these models, these were the first females we ever saw in power armor. Note that they’re not actually called “Space Marines” just yet either. These made their debut over thirty years ago in a White Dwarf magazine! It’s hard to believe how far the hobby/miniature world has come in thirty year’s time.
Female Catachan Grenade Launcher
Fast-forwarding a bit to the time that Catachan Imperial Guard regiments were introduced, the female Catachan grenade launcher is one we can’t forget. It’s awesome to still see Catachans keeping the exact same styling as today.
Mad Donna Necromunda Character
The Escher gang in Necromunda is an all-female gang that we mentioned above. Back in the day when the ’80s were of heavy influence, Mad Donna hit the tabletop rocking some incredible details for her time.
Severina Raine- Female Commissar (Old & New)
in the ’90s the female Commissar model hit the tabletop for the Imperial Guard.
However, just recently the Female Commissar got an update when Black Library gave Severina Raine the spotlight in a book, she also hit the tabletop with the model pictured above. While this miniature is definitely a step-up from the original, it was also made in Finecast resin which is known to be poor quality, brittle, and generally disliked by everyone in the hobby world compared to plastic (or Forge World’s resin).
Sisters of Battle (Old & New)
Battle Sisters were originally introduced in pewter and a huge release back in the day. However, the entire model line wasn’t touched for the longest time. After years of a vocal community, GW has decided to revamp the Sisters of Battle line with an entire-plastic faction release.
Being scaled up, re-posed, and made in plastic, GW is giving us exactly what we’ve been asking for over the past years!
One of the most iconic Sisters of all time also got a model update a bit before the faction was revamped by GW as well.
Female Stormcast Models We’ve Seen
In Warhammer Underworlds, the very first Warband to hit the tabletop came with a female Stormcast Eternal. Beyond this, we’ve seen multiple other female characters hit Age of Sigmar.
This named Stormcast, Leena Stormspire, was a hero that was only available as an exclusive event mini for store openings, refurbishments or relocations.
Larissa Shadowstalker is a Knight-Questor armed with a stormstrike glaive. She’s on foot and doesn’t have a shield so, in terms of in-game rules, she’s not the most high-speed low-drag option. However, she’s definitely got an awesome pose and looks like she’s been around the mortal realms a time or two! She was also store exclusive!
With one of the coolest on-foot Stormcast characters we’ve seen, Neave Blacktalon came with the AoS Blightwars release. This is probably one of the most dynamic female named characters we’ve seen come from GW in a long time.
If you’re a fan of female Stormcasts, Forge World even has these resin head upgrades available. You can just pop these heads onto your minis and have an all-female warrior group!
Female Maneater Model
Now that Ogors just got their Battletome, we feel like it might be a good time to show off this classic Years ago, GW dropped this Maneater model for the Ogors and it’s still got us asking why we don’t see more models like these come to all factions across Age of Sigmar. Why haven’t we seen a female Grot? A female Chaos Sorcerer, etc?

Latest Rumors: 2018 Boxing Day Mini Spotted A Female Model?
Spotted on War of Sigmar (original source unknown)
Supposedly this was originally spotted somewhere on Reddit. However, under the comments on War of Sigmar’s post, there was a user named Sarges who shed some light. This looks to be a quote from an ex GW store manager he found:
Ex gw store manager here, used to manage a store last year.
Now this was supposed to be released as a limited Christmas model in December 2018. We were told a future planned release ‘the amazonian’ had been pulled.
Don’t know if this was due to quality issues etc.
Don’t know if this is a leaked picture of what was supposed to be released or if this is now being released.
It’s not been totally confirmed, but another female model may be in our midst as we wait for the official word on this year’s Boxing Day mini from GW.
While all of these models are female, we definitely haven’t covered the entire range of female models out there. However, there are more from GW and FW than you might think! Of all of these models, which one is your favorite? Do you prefer the older models to the new?
