Top 40k Blood Angels Combos To Watch Out For Now

Sanguinius primarch wal horBlood Angels are back and hitting the competitive scene hard. Here are some of their top 40k combos to watch out for now!

Blood of Baal brought your favorite space vampires back in-line with a ton of new relics, Stratagems and more!

Breaking the book down on the Long War Podcast, which is also available on YouTube, there have been some pretty nasty combos that may make Smash Captains and some other Blood Angels units go down in 8th edition history as being completely badass. Let’s jump right in.

Top 40k Blood Angel Combos To Watch Out For Now

blood angels hor walFrom the looks of things, Blood Angels appear to (possibly) be stronger mixed in with other forces in contrast to most other Marine factions out there. If you need a smackdown wrecking ball squad of characters in your Knight list or just want to go all-in on Blood Angels, you don’t want to miss the total power from this group of heroes. Starting off, you’ll need:

  • Smash Captain with Angel’s Wing relic (no overwatch and can reroll charges)
  • Smash Captain with Gleaming Pinions relic (can charge in a turn you fell back and add +1 to charge rolls)
  • Jump Chaplain with Icon of the Angel relic (reroll charge rolls) along with any Litany you really want.
  • Jump Lieutenant with a boltgun (for Quake Bolts Stratagem) This knocks a unit to the ground and friendly unit add +1 to hit rolls against the unit.

All of these characters will take up a decent chunk of points. However, the damage output (given CP because Smash Captains are THIRSTY BOIS) will be incredible.

If you’ve got even more points to throw into your Blood Angels, don’t forget that Supreme Command Detachments also offer up an Elite slot. You’ll probably be taking Sanguinary Guard. They get two Stratagems that make their damage output spike for a phase.

  • Explosive Judgment (1CP)- You can use this on a Sanguinary Guard unit when it shoots. They get to reroll failed wounds and the enemy unit doesn’t receive benefits of cover.
  • Death on the Wind (1CP)- This lets Sanguinary Guard weapons in the fight phase with a damage characteristic of 1 be treated as 2 damage. Essentially, 1CP and double your damage output.

Stratagems to Remember

Make sure you don’t forget Red Rampage for D3 extra attacks as well.

If you find your units in a bit of trouble, be sure you also keep the CP in-hand for Transhuman Physiology. This prevents a friendly unit of Space Marines from being wounded on anything better than a 4+. HUGELY powerful.

And lastly, if you find your opponent getting lazy with positioning, Unbridled Ardour for 1CP will let a unit of Blood Angels pile in for 6″ as if they were a character. That completely shuts down any selective charges that your opponent might want to pull off. If he charges a Lord Discordant into a Smash Captain to kill him off, you can easily make a unit of Aggressors standing closeby for rerolls stroll over and turn him to paste.

Overall, Blood Angels definitely got a helping hand from Blood of Baal. It seems like everything that they already did from their 8th edition codex was just doubled down to where they do it even better.
