GW Designer Darren Latham Shuts Down YouTube Channel

Angels of death wal space marine horDarren Latham, a long-time designer, and painter for Games Workshop announced that he would be deleting his YouTube Channel with over six months worth of videos on it.

Darren Latham is a seasoned painter and designer for Games Workshop and has continuously put out some amazing pieces for the company.  While he has worked with GW, over the years, he’s also made his own account on YouTube giving free videos to hobbyists. However, he’s also just announced that he would be shutting down his YouTube account and removing all of his videos.

Update: Former Games Workshop Painters Dave Perryman (‘Eavy Metal ) and Duncan Rhodes both have great channels on YouTube to check out!

Latham dropped the announcement in his YouTube video as well as in the comments that he would be stepping away from the channel. But not only will he not be making any more content, but he will be permanently closing the channel outright. It’s one thing to just stop making content and leaving it up for others. It’s not really hurting anyone after all.

But to actively shut down the channel seems perhaps a little bizarre?

Why Is He Shutting Down His YouTube?

darren latham shut down 1He left the description of his video with the announcement:

Hi all. Welcome to my last video on the channel. In this episode I tackle the base for the miniature. I’d encourage you to make your own base and have some fun with it. As mentioned in the video I was a bit restricted as to what I could use. As a last message I’d like to say how grateful I am to everyone for their support over the last 6 months. I don’t think I’ve had any negative comments which is great to see.

I’ve had countless people online and in person tell me how my videos have helped and improved their painting. It really makes me feel proud and I have a massive sense of achievement knowing that in some way this channel helped people. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed making these videos for you, it really was a pleasure to share my knowledge. Keep painting, keep sharing knowledge. I’ll see you all over on Instagram. Thanks everyone, we have an amazing hobby community! All the best, Daz

The channel will remain active until the 18th of May, then it will close.

As he mentions above, you can keep up with him over on Instagram from here on.

All of This Announced Days After Duncan Emerges Back to the Scene

duncan meme 1It’s worth noting that Duncan left GW and began hitting the hobby scene with his own YouTube channel. He produces high-quality painting videos without having to only paint GW minis or using only GW products. Duncan has massed a huge fanbase in recent years from all of his painting videos, personal social media, and events.

He is also pretty active on Twitch and Instagram, so basically, if you’re looking for some great painting ideas and models to ogle over, then this is for you!

As we said, their tutorials are really awesome and span all kinds of armies. But often, they will go along with the newest armies. Which is perfect for anyone just starting out or trying to improve their game.

They also break the videos down into easy-to-digest segments so they have 5 different videos for just how to paint Black Templars. That really lets you know how in-depth they go!

Worry not, they don’t just show love to Space Marines, they also have tons of awesome tutorials for things like Orks. Like we said he’s also pretty active on Twitch, so while the YouTube channel isn’t super full of videos quite yet, they still do plenty in the community to keep up with.

Overall it is just super cool to see such a great painter from the ‘Eavy Metal team posting so much for the community!
