Salute and Uk Games Expo are two more major wargaming conventions that are pushing back their dates in the wake of the Corvid-19 pandemic.
COVID-19 is continuing to spread and pretty much everyone around the world is being told to practice social distancing and stay home. Unfortunately, Warhammer events like Adepticon are so big and draw so many people that it’s just not viable in the current state of affairs worldwide.
Looking ahead, there are two more major wargaming events that have just announced their dates being pushed back.
As of right now, they’re still happening. Just at a later date than usual.
UK Games Expo Delayed Until August
2020’s UK Games Expo has been pushed back to Friday, August 21st through Sunday, August 23rd. This date seemed to be picked so far out so that hopefully by the time it rolls around, the virus will have been contained and we’d be back to normal life once again.
Because the dates were switched, it also won’t be held in the exact location as what was mentioned. It’ll still be at the NEC & Hilton in Birmingham. However, it will be moving to halls 9, 10, and 11.
UK Games Expo also had this to say with their rescheduling:
We consider that a postponement at this stage maximises the chances to both protect the health and well-being of all our attendees and hold a successful show in 2020 so that participant exhibitors sustain the least disruption and financial difficulty.
We understand that this decision will impact everyone in different ways and will have a financial impact on some. We can only apologise for this and assure you that we are working with all our providers and hotels to help with these costs.
On top of that, they’re also giving attendees and dealers full refunds if they wouldn’t be able to attend now that it’s rescheduled.
If you remember last year’s UK Games Expo, it was a pretty big event for GW’s specialist games. We saw Enforcers for Necromunda, more Warcry, Blackstone Fortress, etc. Who knows what we could be seeing in August this time around.
To help hype up the new date, the UK Games Expo also dropped a downloadable file with new artwork for the event.
South London Warlords- Salute 2020 Postponed Until Next Year
Salute 2020 event hosted by South London Warlords is getting a more aggressive postponing with the event basically being canceled for 2020. However, they’ve also already set a date that you can mark down on your calendars for next year. Coming from their South London Warlords & Salute Facebook:
It is with deep regret that we must announce that Salute 2020, due to be hosted by the South London Warlords wargames club at London Excel on Saturday 18th April 2020, is being postponed.
Salute will now take place on Saturday 17th April 2021.
It might be a bummer to know that another event you were going to has been pushed back, but on the bright side, any tickets you bought are still going to remain valid for the next event.
The overarching theme in the comments is supportive. While it stinks to have so many sudden postponements on some fan-favorite events, with safety for everyone in mind, it’s the right thing to do.
With two more events being pushed back, what do you think your hobby life might look like in the next few months? Have you been slamming out projects you’ve been putting off while “working from home”?
