RUMORS: New Saga of The Beast 40k Starter Box Reveal Tonight!

gazghkull ork walRagnar & Ghazghkull may be coming at the head of a new Saga of the Beast 40k Starter box that some say will be revealed tonight at the GAMA preview!

GW just previewed Ragnar and Ghazghkull with their new sculpts. But there are a few clues here that may indicate a new starter box set is hidden in plain sight.

Gama Expo 2020

gamma 2020 gw preview

This year’s GAMA is from March 9th-12th and will be held in Reno, Nevada. With nights full of games as well as over 150 booths loaded with hobby and tabletop goodies, this event is already looking solid.

gama 2020 walWith this just around the corner (and more importantly just weeks before Adepticon), it leaves us scratching our head as to what we might be seeing revealed, (and what GW will be saving for Adepticon).

Ragnar & Ghazghkull’s New Models Previewed

These two dudes are getting new models and they’re releasing together around Saga of the Beast. Funny enough, they actually “killed’ each other at the same time and were recovered and refitted for war. Yeah, Ghazghkull had his head chopped off and Ragnar was turned into Swiss cheese. But at some point, before the lights went out for good, they were saved. GW is really pushing the limits on their plot armor here.

RUMORS: Saga of the Beast Starter Box & New Models

Those rumors from last week, seem to be a bit on point with the latest previews today.

Essential Hobby Products & Tools List

saga of the beast box set rumorsThe key highlights from that are Ragnar and Ghazghkull are supposedly coming in a Saga of the Beast starter Box Set together with Meganobz as well as some Primaris Infiltrators with new tech.

Infilitrators, and Meganobz, huh? Where have we seen those before?

Could a New Saga of the Beast Box Set Be Around the Corner?

They also revealed this pic with Ragnar leading the charge with some Infiltrators. Gazghkull is on the other side with two different Nob squads and Makari. It looks like the perfect shot we’d see done for a Box Set preview.

Infilitrators, check, Meganobz, check. But where are the “new models” from the rumor you may ask?

blood of the phoenixJust look at this earlier pic of all the models for Blood of the Phoenix laid out.  But on that note, just based on the picture above, it looks like if there is a Box Set in store, it would be a little light if that’s all that came inside.

When it comes to Box Sets, GW really likes to give you a broad look at the faction. What we mean by that is include a bunch of different units that have different functions. Just to get you started off on the right foot and explore different options. Shadowspear had Eliminators, Infiltrators, Phobos HQs, new Possessed, a Venomcrawler, etc. Meanwhile, Blood of the Phoenix had units ranging from melee to fast, hard-hitting shooty options on both sides as well.

Just going off of what we can see in the pic above, ten Primaris dudes and Ragnar isn’t enough for a faction to get in a Box Set. And that’s why something could be missing.

Before we jump into a breakdown of what we could be seeing, there are two HIGHLY IMPORTANT variables that we just don’t know about. #1 the overall price of the rumored Box Set is a mystery and #2 We don’t know what might be hiding in the shadows to “complete” the Box Set for both sides.

Breaking Down the Teaser Video:

gazghkull ragnar box set saga of the beastGoing off of what we can see, we’ve got:

  • 10x Primaris Infiltrators $60
  • Ragnar Blackmane $40? -This is what the new Primaris Mephy goes for.
  • Gazghkull Thrakka $60? -Both Abaddon and Guilliman cost the same and are roughly the same size. Although that Ghaz may be on an 80mm base.
  • 5x Ork Nobz $30
  • 3x Ork Meganobs $63

With just that added up alone, we’ve got a total of $255 which might seem like a lot with a model count of about 20.  However, the Blood of the Phoenix Box Set totaled up to $365 MSRP.  Comparing the two, that would mean there’s reasonably about $110 to split between Orks and Space Wolves.

For argument’s sake, let’s go back and take a look at past Box Sets for 40k.

  • 2018/2019 Wrath & Rapture (38 Models) MSRP: $160 Box Set Value: $312 Savings $152
  • 2018 Tooth & Claw (30 Models) MSRP: $150 Box Set Value: $345 Savings $195
  • 2018 Wake The Dead (32 Models) MSRP: $150 Box Set Value: $301 Savings $151
  • 2019 Blood of the Phoenix (25 Models) MSRP: $230 Box Set Value: $375 Savings $145

While there’s definitely room to fit another kit of models on both sides, assuming they are a small model count and valued around say $50-ish each.

All that aside, we still don’t know what a Box Set containing all these things could even cost. But it’s important to remember that the last Psychic Awakening Box Set sat at $230.

With all of this covered, do you think there will be a Box Set revealed at GAMA 2020? Could there be new units lying in wait for the Box Set? Or do you think there might not be any Box Set at all?
