The Lumineth Realm-Lords have two subdivisions of new warscroll rules and units- Alarith and the Vanari. Check out the latest on Alarith!
Spotted on Imgur, we’ve got even more Warscrolls emerging for the Alarith units in the Lumineth Realm-Lords faction. Here are all the details on the Alarith Stonemage and Stoneguard.
Lumineth Realm-Lords Alarith Warscroll Rules SPOTTED!
For the Alarith Stonemage, he’s a wizard that’s too lazy to walk himself. He’s sitting on a little stone elemental that does the heavy lifting for him. With average stats for a frontline Wizard, he’s also got a 3″ D3 damage staff that might take people by surprise. With reach like that, he can sit behind other models and whack heads. THWACK!
Stonemage Stance will let him and other Stoneguard units add -1 rend to their weapons. The only tradefodd is that they can’t make a pile-in move when they activate. That essentially translates into sacrificing potential attacks for better rend. But if your opponent charges them and is too aggressive you may not even need to pile-in in the first place.
For his magic potential, he’s a basic Wizard with one cast and one unbind. But his unique spell, Gravitic Redirection will go off on a 5. This will make him FLY and an enemy unit within 18″ will take a mortal wound and half their movement and lose FLY if they have it. This is a great way to secure objectives that might be hard to get. If he flies, he can ignore terrain and sit on an objective while an already-slow unit like Fyreslayers may be completely shut down. Even denying another enemy unit the FLY keyword is powerful. Imagine pulling down a Gunhauler from the Kharadron Overlords for a turn.
We also saw earlier that this guy keeps Spirits of the Mountain operating on their top bracket in-game.
Alarith Stoneguard
Before we get into their Warscroll it’s important to note some rules that were revealed by WHC earlier…
Alarith units (that’s the hammer-wielding chaps and their mountainous bovine friends) hail from the mountains of Hysh. On the battlefield, think of them as an unstoppable glacier that’s capable of sweeping enemies aside. During the first turn of the game, your Alarith units couple great saves with the ability to ignore -1 Rend attacks, ideal for weathering your enemy’s opening salvos.
So…from what we can tell, there’s no reason not to adopt the mountain stance. There’s no trade-off to give us a reason to ever NOT do the mountain stance. However, there might be another type of fighting style we have yet to see.
So this rule is cool but it’s going to be really annoying. Basically, these dudes are able to push back whatever unit they’re in melee with. This is like in the movies when you see a shield wall slowly push back an attacking horde and they lose their footing. However, in-game, you’ll have to move your units back 2″ from any Alarith unit you’re in combat with. If there are multiple Alarith units on the table and you’re playing a horde army, this can eat up a lot of time…
For the Alarith Warscroll, BOY THESE GUYS ARE SLOW. But they do have a 4+ Save and two wounds which is nice. A Standard Banner will let you reroll battleshock tests so if you take a big squad, it might but worth bringing one along. However, you could always roll worse on the second roll. Definitely not the best banner rule for a faction.
They’ve got 1″ hammers with a basic -1 Rend (which we saw can be boosted to -2 Rend with a Stonemage). In addition, 6’s to hit with stone mallets count as two damage.
Dimondpick Hammers hitting on a 6+ will get through armor completely just causing a single mortal wound.
Finally, for the Sergeant of the squad (the Truestone Seneschal), you can reroll his hits.
Overall, the Stoneguard are pretty neat. The fact that they can push units back when they get in melee is a cool ability but their damage output doesn’t seem insane. If we had to put a label on them, they’re a solid backbone frontline unit.
After seeing two more Warscrolls revealed for the Lumineth Realm-Lords, how do you think they’ll play on the tabletop? Are Stonemages going to be the MVPs of the faction seeing that they synergize with two other units?
