It looks like we might have to wait a bit longer for the 40k army builder app as GW looks to have pushed back the release date.
Just hours after we dropped a reminder post on the army builder app that was supposed to be released Saturday (the same day as Indomitus pre-orders) Warhammer Community hit us with an update- Here’s everything you need to know about the army builder app.
The App Is Subscription Based
You can download the app for free, but for any useful information, you’ll have to become a subscriber. Sure, you get to read the core rules on your phone, but we also saw GW drop a free PDF download on the core rules earlier. The only neat part about the app if you don’t choose to pay is that you’ll be able to download a digital form of your codex if you buy one for your army once the 9th Edition version of your army’s codex drops.
The Core Rules for the game are included in the app for free, so everyone has a quick reference to the rules in the heat of battle. Neat, huh? Well, just you wait until new codexes start to drop – every codex written for the new edition will include a one-use code you can redeem through your My Warhammer account (we’ll get back to that in a minute) to unlock that codex in the app.
Also, this is how much it’s going to cost:
£3.99 – less than a paintbrush per month for all your rules in the palm of your hand.
For hobbyists in the US, that should be about $5. (five times more expensive than the AoS army builder AZYR app).
GW Pushes Back Release of 40k App
This was taken directly off of Warhammer Community’s first announcement of a new app. It was scheduled to drop the same day as Indomitus pre-orders. However, it looks like they’ve pushed it back “a few weeks”.
The Warhammer 40,000 app will be launching in the next few weeks, and even more features will be coming right on its heels.
What Could’ve Caused the Change?
For paying the subscription, we’ll gain access to the army building portion of the app as well as some kind of quick-reference rules sheet. That may or may not be worth it to you depending on how easy the app is to navigate.
For the most part, it seems that most of the 40k player base uses Battlescribe to build lists. Being that it’s free, is updated regularly, and people having a tendency to stick with what they know, the 40k army builder app may be looking less good. But again, it’ll probably come down to user interface.
Now the big question stands…What caused the delay?
We’re not sure what could’ve caused the app’s launch date to be changed to an unclear “few weeks”. Chapter Approved’s points release or some hiccups caused by the worldwide crisis could have had something to do with it. We probably won’t ever officially know.
