GW Fumbles Warhammer 40k App Release

primaris psyker hor wal guard angry frustratedThe Warhammer 40k app we’ve been waiting on for weeks is finally here, but it looks like GW fumbled the release a bit sadly. Here is where we stand.

For the most part, players in the community use Battlescribe to build their lists. However, GW stepped up to the plate and mentioned earlier that they would be releasing an app that held content like codexes, rules, and even a list-builder. Now that it’s here, there are some features and versions of the APP that are not available at launch. With that said, before we jump into the details, here are the earlier highlights you need to know to get caught up.

The Original Release Date Should Have Been June 6th

The question on a lot of hobbyists minds is why are we even is situation in the first place?

9th edition app old dateFirst GW said that the 40k App that was supposed to be live on Pre-Order day, which was the first announcement by Mike Brandt after he joined the company, a statement that has since been walked back by Games Workshop.

But here’s the issue with all of this. Originally Indomitus was set to be on pre-order June 6th, with a June 20th release date, which makes all these delays a little bit more frustrating when put into this perspective. Sure COVID backed up the box set date, but did it do the same with the APP?

Promo material sent to stores reveals the first pre-order date for Indomitus was June 6th 2020.

A few days later, we saw a post drop showing some of the details of the app. This is where we first saw that the app was subscription-based and that its release was moved to a “few weeks”.

9th edition app subscriptionThe Core Rules for the game are included in the app for free, so everyone has a quick reference to the rules in the heat of battle. Neat, huh? Well, just you wait until new codexes start to drop – every codex written for the new edition will include a one-use code you can redeem through your My Warhammer account (we’ll get back to that in a minute) to unlock that codex in the app.

Also, this is how much it’s going to cost:

£3.99 – less than a paintbrush per month for all your rules in the palm of your hand.

The Warhammer 40,000 app will be launching in the next few weeks, and even more features will be coming right on its heels.

GW Fumbles Warhammer 40k App Release

my warhammer appThe app is finally out, but before you can subscribe, you’ll have to make a My Warhammer account. On that note, at the time of writing this, it’s not been released for iOS just yet, but we know it does cost $4.99, which is a reasonable price considering how GW likes to arbitrage their prices to make a profit off currency conversions.

iOS users, it’s arriving in the next day or so…*

We know you’re eager to find out when Battle Forge is coming your way. It’s really soon – August, in fact! Battle Forge is among the first of many features being added to the app, and it’ll make putting your armies together a breeze. You can choose your datasheets, change weapons, add options, pick your psychic powers, Warlord Traits, and Relics, and then output the list to print, send to friends or get feedback from your gaming buddies on social media. All you need to do to be ready for Battle Forge is download the app and subscribe through My Warhammer.

Tracking things from the beginning, the app was delayed, the community was surprised about a subscription fee, and now that the app is out, but only for Google Play/Android users, and the army builder aspect isn’t in place just yet. But all things considered, the interface is smooth and it’s promising if GW can hammer out the final touches.

What do you think about the Warhammer 40k app? Will you be subscribing even though the army builder isn’t out just yet?
