Make Two Great Unclean Ones Using Left Over Bits!

Great Unclean one Feature eBay Miniature Rescues is back again with another video, and this time he’s printing a new body to make a second Great Unclean One.

eBay Miniature Rescues is a unique channel that shows you how to take beat up, damaged minis, and restore them to their fullest potential! It’s a relatively new channel on YouTube and it’s super fun to watch what Casey is able to do with some once hopeless miniatures.

This week, he shows us how you can use the leftover bits from the original kit and turn it into another whole mini and how to paint it!

Saving a Great Unclean One: eBay Miniature Rescue

Great Unclean One BodyHe had the leftover bits from building the initial model that comes in the box. However, all you have is bits, but no body! Not to worry, he broke out his new Photon S 3D printer and made himself one! Looks pretty good. Once the body was cured he cleaned up the supports, errors, and little pieces hanging off. If you want to see more about 3D printing, check it out here.

Building the Mini

Buidling the Great Unclean OneFirst, he did a dry fit of every piece he is thinking of using. Once he knew everything fit, he simply glued the pieces on and filled the gaps with Green Stuff. There was quite a bit of Green Stuff work that went into this. Just to cover up some of the gaps and make a few extra tentacles (using a tentacle maker), but still a heck of a lot better than buying an entirely new mini!

Priming

Great unclean one PrimedStart with a Synylrez Black primer and cover the whole model. Once dry he hit the model from the top with Liquitex White in the airbrush. This really highlights the mini so you can actually see what you are doing!

Different PaintsHe does this tutorial a little bit differently. Most of the time he breaks down the steps for us, but this time he just goes through the process without each step detailed. We’ll try and give you the stages he goes through.

Here are all the paints he will be using on the paint job, starting from dark green and moving all the way up to florescent purple. He’s using Vallejo Game Air for all of his green, yellow, orange, and pink. Fantasy & Games paints for the darker purples. Lastly, he uses the Golden paints for the hot pink and lighter purple.

Airbrushing The Great Unclean One:

Airbrushing the Great Unclean OneStart with the dark green and hit the whole model with a good base coat. Once dry he continues to go lighter and lighter with top-down coats of continually lighter green. He slowly starts to add some of the yellow and orange into the mix. Just nice smooth coats going up in color until it has the feeling he wants. The last stage before moving onto the purple is hitting the hands and certain highlight areas with a mainly orange mix.

Purple Airbrushing stageNext, he starts on the tentacles and the underside of the mini. He uses a similar strategy to the green here. Starting with a darker purple and slowly making it lighter and lighter.

Highlighting

Highlighting Stage GUOTo start, he puts all of the remaining colors and a white into a wet palette. He starts with a brown and mixes it with a little bit of white to give it a dirtier look. He paints the cowl with a dark brown first, then mixes more white in to highlight the edges of the cowl. For the horns, he wet blends a darker and lighter brown with the base being lighter going to the darkest at the top. Last, before we move on, highlight the little eyes, and raised areas with that very light brown color.

Washing Stage

GUOIn order to bring in more depth and accentuate the mini, he makes two oil washes. To do this he mixes a violet and crimson oil colors with paint thinner in two containers. He then starts with the crimson oil wash and hits the majority of the mini. After he hits all the areas he wants, he then goes with the violet wash. With that one, he hits fewer areas but everywhere it makes sense. You can see just how much of a different feel that stage makes.

With that this incredible mini is done! A really cool way to use 3D printing to take extra bits and make a whole new model.
