New preorders from GW including the latest starter set boxes coming in hot for AoS 3.0 and even some new McFarlane figures!
Warhammer Community just let us in on all the new releases for pre-order this coming Saturday. Right out of the gate, this release schedule and structure look almost identical to what we had with Indomitus!
Gw may be trying to match the two-game systems in terms of release methodology. Let’s go over the line-up starting with the Starter boxes.
AoS 3.0 Warrior Starter Set
The Warrior Starter Set contains 18 push-fit miniatures – a Knight-Arcanum and five Vindictors of the Stormcast Eternals, and a Killaboss, his Stab-grot assistant, and 10 Gutrippaz for the Kruleboyz orruks.
This is the smallest starter, thus making it the cheapest. perfect for newcomers who want to test out smaller games before committing to the included armies or even to AoS in general.
AoS 3.0 Harbinger Starter Set
The Harbinger Starter Set includes the Vindictors and Gutrippaz contained in the Warrior Starter Set, plus a trio of Praetors, a Lord-Imperatant, and his faithful Gryph-hound for the Stormcast Eternals, while 10 Hobgrot Slittaz, a Swampcalla Shaman, and his pot-grot reinforce the Kruleboyz.
This version is the middle in size and cost. It might be a good pick if you really like the factions but aren’t too keen on making your own terrain. This brings us the most expensive version…
AoS 3.0 Extremis Starter Set
The Extremis Starter Set is the largest of these beautiful boxes, combining a double-sided gaming board and five pieces of scenery – as well as all of the models from the Harbinger Starter Set – to create a thorough introduction to Warhammer Age of Sigmar.
This starter is going to be the most expensive and the biggest difference is the inclusion of the new terrain set for AoS 3.0. If you love the factions, and AoS in general, this is a great option.
Kruleboyz Paint Set
This set contains 6 great paints to help you get started on a Kruleboyz or even just Orruk army. Of course, there is also a brush, but you may want to pick up one or two more for the best experience.
Stormcast Paint Set
Mirroring the Kruleboyz is the Stormcast, with the major difference being this comes with 2 instead of 3 figures, and of course different paint.
AoS 3.0 Paint and Tool Set
This set comes with more paint but no models and a clipper and shaving tool. This is ideal if you are also picking up one of the starter boxes as it will get you started on painting them both!
Age of Sigmar Realmscape Expansion Set
The Dawnbringer Crusades set out to drive back the darkness at the frontiers of the realms, establish bright new settlements in the name of the God-King Sigmar, and protect the citizens of Order. Some of those Crusades have failed, leaving half-built ruins in the wastelands while others continue construction apace, glittering spires standing as beacons of hope in otherwise bleak landscapes.
As the terrain included in the Extremis starter set, this terrain makes for a perfect environment for AoS 3.0 and especially setting the scene for Stormcast vs Kruleboyz.
Getting Started With Warhammer Age of Sigmar
For the absolute beginner, there’s no better guide to getting started in Warhammer Age of Sigmar than this magazine – and its newest edition is available to pre-order next weekend. An essential guide to the different aspects of the Warhammer hobby – complete with not one but two free miniatures – it’s sure to provide all the inspiration and motivation needed to begin your conquest of the Mortal Realms.
As the absolute cheapest entry point, this magazine serves as a great way to dip in your toes and even get your hands on what might be your very first miniatures.
Malign Sorcery and Forbidden Power
The fantastic endless spell miniatures have been boxed up into new Malign Sorcery and Forbidden Power packs, and you can find refreshed rules for all of them in the General’s Handbook 2021. Plus, the enchanting Penumbral Engine is available to pre-order on its own for the first time next Saturday too.
These aren’t new, but instead are getting a repackage for the new edition. You can also pick on the Penumbral engine if you missed out on it the previous offering and still want to grab it by itself.
Indomitus Book
Next week, Indomitus by Gav Thorpe is available to pre-order in paperback. The first novel set in the most recent edition of Warhammer 40,000, Indomitus sees the Ultramarines faced with a dire choice – will they fight a desperate last stand or doom an entire sector to warn the Imperium of the rise of a new Necron empire?
As the main book covering the happenings of the jump into 9th edition 40k, this is a great book if you are invested in that space as well.
Thunderstrike & Other Stories
Meanwhile, in the Age of Sigmar, you can tour the realms in the safe hands of some of Black Library’s finest writers with the anthology Thunderstrike & Other Stories. The perfect introduction to the Mortal Realms and its inhabitants – both good and bad – this book collects works by authors including David Guymer, Gav Thorpe, Darius Hinks, David Annandale, and more.
In line with the AoS starters, this book serves as a good lore point of entry. Filled with a variety of short stories, these are going to be easy to read and won’t require too much time to enjoy some great story points.
We’ve got some fantastic news – the newest collection of Warhammer 40,000 action figures from McFarlane Toys is available to order for our North American customers next Saturday. No pre-order – just head to the website and grab your favourite.
While WHC is showing these off as new orders for next week, you can actually pick them up at Amazon right now! If they run out of stock though, you might still be able to get them via GW’s offering on Saturday
