This is the Best Thing GW Has Done In a Long Time

super happy guardsman wal horAfter the big reveal it looks like Warhammer+ may be the best thing GW has done in a long time- here’s why!

If we’re being honest, we were a little skeptical when the new app was announced, but after the latest preview show, we are now believers! With getting all three apps for $5.99 a month or $59 for the year, it jumps out as a good value. Especially considering if you’re already paying for either app (40k or AoS), this is basically a tiny jump in price.

Plus, there’s going to be a lot of animations on there, a lore show, a painting show (in the more masterclass style), and a battle reports show. On top of that, you can grab an exclusive mini after a year of being subscribed and the vault that will have tons of books, lore, and WDs. So looking at all that, it really starts to have some serious value.

To be fair though if you start to think about all the issues that plagued the 40k app- if GW releases this in the same “Beta style” that 40k app was released with, then things start looking a little worrisome…

Value of Warhammer+ Plus:

This post was updated with the actual value of Warhammer+ Plus on October 2nd 2021

warhammer+ value

Cost for a year $59.99

Actual cost for a year subscription: $15 which breaks down to $1.25 a month for initial subscribers.

When you look at the value of Warhammer+ in hobby dollars, $1.25 per month is probably the best value in hobby content that ever existed.

Warhammer+ a Decent Value, as Long as it Works

Warhammer-+-announcemnetOne thing that stuck out to us in the reveal, they said they don’t have a platform quite yet. With this coming out in August, which isn’t very far away, it raises some red flags. If they had a better track record with releases, we wouldn’t even be talking about this. We’d just be praising how cool this is.

This is a pretty ambitious release, with how much they are putting into it, there is a lot of room for error. There also may be thousands of people tuning in on day one. If it releases with all kinds of issues, people are just going to tear it apart.

40k app feature rThey still haven’t even really got the 40k app working, and it’s been more of a pain than a help. With how much hype they put into this, everyone expected a lot.

Warhammer+ has similar hype, so let’s just hope they managed to put this through plenty of testing. If it works perfectly, we’ll be super excited and the value will be there. If it releases with a ton of bugs and issues, the community will sour quickly. There is one more possible issue to talk about though.

New AoS App

Age-of-sigmar-3.0-wal-hor-title-rulesThey didn’t say too much about this in the preview, but AoS will be grabbing an entirely new app. Not sure about this, because players seem to really like the old app, and, again, GW hasn’t had the best track record with making new apps.

While we’re not exactly sure why they are making an entirely new one, it probably has something to do with this Warhammer+ offering in general, so we’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out.

aos appThey were however upfront about the AoS app being beta and its “moving target release”.  After the above-mentioned issues with the 40k App rollout, I think a lot of hobbyists can appreciate their honesty this go around.

The new and improved app will be available to download in a beta version later this year, sometime before the first Battletomes for the new edition. The beta will be free to use and includes the all-important army-building tool. Eventually, the app will join the wider Warhammer+ offer, and access to paid features (including the army building tool) will be included as part of that subscription.
