Another off-meta 40k army list emerged in the Crit Hit Game Hub ITC, check this one out!
9th Edition’s meta is still settling, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. They didn’t do too bad and just goes to show that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Crit Hit Game Hub ITC: Jon Shaw- Iron Warriors
Right out of the gates this list is pretty unique because it opted to go for an Iron Warriors Battalion! The detachment is led by a Chaos Lord in Terminator Armor, a Lord Discordant, and a Master of Possession.
The Chaos Lord provides a good reroll aura while being a little tougher thanks to his armor upgrade. The Lord Discordant is actually just a great solo model able to dish or damage and take some, but on top of that, it also adding 1 to hit rolls for friendly vehicles and subtracting 1 from enemies. While the Master of Possession gains access to more daemon and daemon engine-focused psychic powers, making him great in this list.
Troops bring 60 Chaos Cultists, mostly for meat shields, but also able to muck up objectives during the first turns, while your bigger threats can deal damage from range.
Elites bring a Leviathan Dread with some pretty decent anti-armor shots on a durable body. There are also 2 Decimators with Petards, which pump out mortal wounds, and 1 Decimator with butcher cannons, which help cull chaff or shoot at vehicles in a pinch. The last Elite is a single greater possessed, which adds 1 to the Strength of nearby Daemons and hits pretty hard in melee for being so cheap. Heavy Supports bring 3 Venomcrawlers, which serve as decent multipurpose weapons with both ranged and melee options. Lastly, there is a single squad of Emperor’s Children Warp Talons to round out the list and potentially wrap up a unit for a turn.
Overall this list offers a pretty standard approach featuring a ton of new models, but we like it because of their all-in on an aspect of their faction in a response to the meta.
Even better they got decent results from the player who piloted it! It’s also very encouraging when a player is able to play a previously widely considered “underpowered” army or list style so effectively.
What do you think about this homebrew 40k army list from last weekend that caught our eye?
