Top Warhammer 40k Army Lists: GW New Orleans Open

40k-army-lists-freshThe GW New Orleans Open happened over the weekend with some pretty sweet 40k army lists making it out towards the top!

The tournament is over and now we’re able to look at which lists managed to secure a place at the top! Check out what these winners brought in their armies.

The top overall players were a lot of the same stagnant meta that has hung over tournaments like the ghost of the Knight Castellan, so we’re featuring some of the more unique lists that placed high instead!

Hunter went for a Battalion of Space Wolves led by a Chapter Master, a Lieutenant, and a Primaris Chaplain on Bike. This ends up giving the whole army a suite of auras and buffs to work with, helping each turn go a little closer to plan. Not to mention the Chaplain on Bike comes with the benefit of extra mobility!

Troops include 10 Incursors, and an Assault Intercessor squad, which provide some small differences but ultimately serving as some meat shields for the more elite portions of the list coming up.

Starting off with Elites, there are Hounds of Morkai serving as some mobile threats that get bonuses when targeting psykers. A Judiciar serves as a pretty decent melee character that just wants to deal damage. The meat of the elites comes from 15 Wolf Guard with Jump Packs plus claws and shields. These serve as durable and mobile units that can decimate whole units if allowed to get into melee at full strength. Finally, there is 5 Wulfen finishing out the Elites.

As for Fast Attacks, the first two are Cyber Wolves which are extremely cheap and might be able to lock up a ranged unit for a phase.

The final Fast Attack is 6 Skyclaws. Skyclaws provide even more mobile melee threats with the leader wielding an almighty Thunder Hammer.

Heavy  Support shifts focus to ranged anti-armor with 10 Long Fangs wielding a mix of Grav-cannons and Multi-Melta, both meant to chip away at the opponent’s vehicles.

Finally, there is a single Drop Pod rounding out the lists points and providing a single ace in the hole for one of these units to get in relatively unharmed.
