New 40k Eldar Webway Gate Rules Revealed by GW

new-eldar-rules-codex-preview-rumors-teaserIt looks like the new Eldar Webway Gate Rules might actually make it a decent piece to bring to the table!

These new rules are actually kind of cool and surprisingly, this is something we haven’t seen too many rumors for, so it’s good to see something for this very cool-looking piece of terrain!

Warhammer Community unveiled the new rules and they are better than expected. Let’s get into the rules!

9th edition Aeldari eldar codex

So what’s waiting for you in the pages of this massive new 200-page codex? Let’s start with new ways to build the mixed-faction Aeldari armies of your dreams. Their race may be in decline, but they’re full of vibrant factions who can be called on for aid.

As well as rules for Asuryani Aeldari (that’s craftworlds to me and you), this new codex also has rules for fielding Harlequins – we’ll have more info on adding these deadly clowns to your armies later in the week. We saw the first Corsairs miniature at LVO, and you can also include them in an army. You can even dedicate yourself to the Aeldari god of death and take a Ynnari army – all using the same codex!

Webway Gate Rules

Much like Aeldari Guardians, who are soon strapping into upgraded armour, the Webway Gate has received a defensive boost of its own. In fact, it’s now almost completely invincible. But they aren’t just big, pretty barricades for Dark Reapers to rest their shiny new reaper launchers on. Deep striking is the name of the webway’s game, and the Aeldari know exactly how to use their gates for lightning attacks.

Now that it can’t be destroyed, that right there makes it way better. Then, giving Leadership to units within 6″, just makes it better. The biggest thing though is you can set this up anywhere further than 12″ from the enemy, then it gives cover.

Webway Gate Rules 2

The true strength of the gates, however, lies in the ability to set your strongest combat troops up as close as you like to enemy forces. Get within Engagement Range of your target and you’ll even count as having charged, with the added bonus of being safe from Overwatch fire.

Charging Out of the Webway

If the enemy gets within 6″ of the gate, you can just charge right out of it! If you are engagement range, you can attack away and count as charged! So something like Howling Banshees that get a lot of buffs on the charge could be a great way to get them on the battlefield without getting them shot first!

Webway Gate Rules 3

Troops must be held in Strategic Reserve to emerge through the webway, so the gate’s architects have taken a leaf from Prince Yriel’s playbook to halve the Command point cost. Now, for a paltry 1CP, you can even crash-land the immensely powerful Avatar of Khaine into the thick of combat.

For 1 CP, this is pretty sweet! We might actually see more of these coming to tabletops soon!
