Two Thin Coats Paints: Goobertown Hobbies Review

Two Thin Coats GoobertownIn this review, Goobertown Hobbies talks us through the new Two Thin Coats Paints and what he thinks about the new line!

Goobertown Hobbies is a great content creator who has interesting takes on the hobby. Whether it’s a collaboration with other hobby YouTubers or a challenge for himself, he has a broad range of topics he covers. Since he has so much great content, why not check out what else he has done?

This week he is doing something a little different. He’s doing an honest review of the new Two Thin Coats line from Duncan Rhodes. He grabbed a bunch of their paints at GAMA, so let’s see what he thinks!

Two Thin Coats Paints: Goobertown Hobbies Review

Two Thin Coats Goobertown 2The initial line has 60 paints and is being put out now by Asmodee. So we should all be seeing it very soon. While at GAMA Goobertown and eBay Miniature Rescue actually went to the booth to see what the paints are all about. They painted for a while at the show, but at the end of the convention. They sent them home with a bunch of paints! So we get an even better review.

Initial Thoughts

Two Thin Coats 3They started by priming a ton of minis in white, black, and some in more of a Zenithal. They did a single coat on all of these and they cover pretty well, whether out of an airbrush or with a regular brush.

Two Thin Coats Goobertown 3They are organized into triads and have 60 paints to start with. He also doesn’t like the names of the paints as they don’t tell you what they actually are, they don’t tell you what other triads they go with, or what type of pigments are in the paints. One other thing about names, they have elven skin, dwarven skin, and barbarian brawn.

As usual, the Caucasian skin tones are named, and the tones for other skin types are named something else. But there are other colors to paint other skin tones.

Two Thin Coats 3Other than a few small nitpicks, the paint goes on smooth, is fun to use, it’s to use, and looks good. It comes out of the bottle a little thick, which makes it very easy to thin down. They also come with mixing balls, so everything was very well mixed.

Missing Some Important Colors

Two Thin Coats Goobertown 5There are some very important colors missing especially when it comes to greens. There is a green triad but it’s much more geared towards something like Ork skin. There is also a darker blue triad, but nothing very bright in terms of blue. However, since this is just the first line, they said they will be adding more. It has lots of great colors for painting Space Marines but is missing some fun colors for in-between blue and green.

The Washes & Metals

Two Thin Coats Goobertown 6The Washes are quite dark, they look more like contrast or Speedpaint than a normal wash. Which means they are both good and bad. If you are liking how your base coats are going, he wouldn’t risk using them. If you need a reset or are using them as a big part of your painting process, then they work really well for that.

Two Thin Coats Goobertown 7The metals come out a little thick, but go on very well and can be thinned down easily. So far so good!

The Price

Two Thin Coats Goobertown 8They will be $5 a bottle, which puts them in the top tier for a price, but still lower than GW. This puts them in the premier paint price, and competition in that space is always good!

Final Thoughts

If you see these end up in your store, he thinks you should buy a bottle or two and see what you think! Especially since paints are all preferences. Overall, he won’t replace his whole paint collection with them but will be picking them up from time to time. If you Kickstarted the project, you don’t have anything to worry about!
