Why Were AoS Vanguard Boxes Rebranded to Spearhead?
As of 2024, Games Workshop has rebranded these bundle boxes from Vanguard to Spearhead in order to match the new game type in Age of Sigmar 4th Edition. The Spearhead force of each faction is made from a single box, and all the Vanguard boxes available on the market will eventually be rebranded as Spearhead box sets but still have the same pricing and value.
Vanguard / Spearhead Box Set Description
AoS Spearhead or Vanguard boxes are a fantastic entry point into playing a new army or expanding your current collection. Each box contains a starter selection of miniatures, providing a solid foundation for a playable force. These Spearhead box sets are designed with both newcomers and veteran hobbyists in mind and offer decent value for the most part.

GW released new 4th Edition AoS Spearhead faction rules for the corresponding boxes, just like they did for the Warhammer 40k Combat Patrols for starter games.

- The Spearhead boxes will come with different rules, warscrolls, and objectives.

Yes, these are exactly the same miniatures from the old Vanguard box, just with the Clanrats switched out for the new Easy to Build (ETB) or push-fit ones, and an increase in price. So… it does get you a decent number of minis inside, but it’s a little lackluster. Not only is there just one new unit inside, but the value isn’t that high, and these new Clanrats are available at a discount pretty much everywhere with the overproduction of Skaventide.
