Games Workshop New Reverse Paywall is a Huge Success!

gw-new-releasesIt looks like the Games Workshop reverse paywall is a huge success as both the Leviathan and Contemptor ranged upgrade sprues have already sold out!

It looks like the reverse paywall was a success for Games Workshop!

We talked a lot about how this is actually a great step for Games Workshop. Instead of Games Workshop hiding the Leviathan and Contemptor ranged kits behind a paywall, they released the sprues so you can get more options without spending more money on two separate kits.

Obviously, the sprues aren’t super cheap, but still, it’s cheaper than buying two whole kits. So hobbyists seem to love getting more options for less!

Leviathan & Contemptor Upgrade Sprues Already Sold Out

We saw this announcement a while ago, but when it hit shelves (well, webstore only), they sold out very quickly.

It seems like people would want to buy just the upgrade sprue instead of buying a whole new kit. It’s a huge precedent that, if done right, can be a really great pivot from Games Workshop to provide more value to hobbyists!

The same thing happened with the Contemptor sprue, so with both doing so well, this may be the norm from GW. Instead of selling something in a giant paywall for a single new sprue, they might just let us buy it directly instead!

This would be really cool if you think about 40k and how they upgrade older units with one new sprue. Maybe with the success of these, GW will actually put those as webstore exclusives and let people grab the upgrades without spending a ton.

Or who knows? Maybe this is just something we will see for Horus Heresy. Either way, this gives hope for more value from GW, as hobbyists obviously loved the option of saving money over buying two whole kits.

If you wanted the ranged weapon sprues and didn’t jump on them immediately, keep an eye out for the next restock.
