Be sure to check out all his stuff here! This week, he takes it back to AoS with this mini!

Painting Morathi: eBay Miniature Rescue Tutorial

Rescuing Morathi 2He actually met the original designer of Morathi at a gaming convention, and it got him thinking about making his own. So he grabbed the original model from eBay to complete his collection! This made him want to start a new army full of snake ladies! Let’s see how to paint the mini!

Step 1:

Rescuing Morathi 3Well, to start, he made a bit of a mistake as this has been sitting on his desk for about a year… So, he needed to give it a bath but forgot on this one, as the black primer just covered everything. If you need tips on removing dust from your minis before or after you’ve painted them, check out our tutorial on it here!

With that said, he added white spray to the areas where he wanted to stand out on the model!

Step 2:

Rescuing Morathi 4Next, he uses teal on the wings and scales through the airbrush to build up the contrast. For the skin, he starts with a darker skin tone and comes overtop with pale flesh, lightly edging the teal and skin together. He used bright gold for all the metallic portions, as it’s important in Greek mythology.

Step 3:

Rescuing Morathi 5Now onto the robes, he goes with a contrast of red, starting with magenta and slowly building up to brighter and brighter red.

This is where the dust began to show, but he tried to use it to his advantage and used it as texture. He takes the red all the way up to orange in the brightest areas. Now, he washes all the gold with Reikland Fleshshade.

For the shadows on the skin and face, he shades all of it with a dark flesh tone and then paints in the shapes with the pale flesh tone from before. For the eyes, he paints the eyes with a yellow basecoat, then moves this up to a bright green slowly.

Step 4:

Rescuing Morathi 6To brighten up the scales, he does a very light drybrush of light teal and then does a purple wash over the scales and skin to tie them together (but just on the lower half of the skin). To finish the scales, he brings a light coat of green onto the stinger.

For the base, he starts by laying down some glue and throwing on some grass tufts to have a variety of colors and textures. He covers the entire thing with this; be sure to use a lot of textures not to have a boring-looking base.

Finished Model:

Rescuing Morathi 7There you have it, an awesome-looking mini and another model rescued!
