The original Baneblade cutaway sketch sold at auction recently, and it would have been awesome to own a piece of Imperial Guard history!
We recently looked back at this Baneblade art with the 2023 Imperial Guard rework, but then we saw that both the original sketch and illustration have been sold recently. While the price wasn’t the craziest thing, it’s really cool to see this older artwork actually hit the market, and maybe you can score some for yourself.
The art comes from John R. Mullaney Visualisation, and while all the Baneblade sketches have been sold, they have tons of other awesome stuff like Alien, Halo, Terminator, and Star Wars! So, plenty to sink your teeth into.
Original Baneblade Sketch Sells at Auction!
These are the original sketches that really bring the tank to life! As a lot of the tank seems to be run by servos and candlelight! Why use normal lights when you can just put some candles all over the place?
Over $400 seems like a good deal to have the original sketch for the Baneblade, but unfortunately, we missed the auction.
But that’s not all that sold; here is what they had to say about the separate sale of the colored illustration and the process of making this:
Absolutely delighted to say that just before Christmas I sold my original cutaway artwork of the Baneblade Tank – a piece originally commissioned by Games Workshop ten years ago – to a private collector.
This was a hugely ambitious piece of work with one of the most unusual briefs I’ve ever worked to: “ a WWII era submarine meets gothic cathedral “ and took the best part of a year to evolve & complete over successive approval stages.
