This new core set maintains all the current rules of Crisis Protocol, but packages them into a Core Set that has been updated in every other way to create the next evolution of entry points into Marvel: Crisis Protocol.
As opposed to the original Core Set, this one looks like it will have three more initial characters, six more bases, and plenty of terrain to go around!
New Marvel Crisis Protocol Character Cards & Team Tactics From Core Set
The preview images of character cards came from the AMG reveal stream, with the ones from Gen Con 2023 demos spotted in the MCP Facebook Group.
Captain America gets a new card for the Mightiest Heroes box and an affiliation. This version of him is much more of a brawler than some previous cards. I can do this all day is back on his injured side as well.
Just like with Captain America, Red Skull gets a new affiliation, he can transport characters, bend reality, and you can change around a ton of roll results.
Ultron is getting a rework, and even the grunts are getting some love. He has some insanely powerful attacks, has a lot of immunities, can transport over the board, and has strong defenses.
Captain Marvel is one of the few characters with a different model for a new form, which always makes the characters more diverse and fun to throw down on the table.
The Invincible Iron Man gets a S.H.I.E.L.D Affiliation, and you can spend power to reroll dice. Like most of his versions, you have some strong attacks, but Billion-Dollar Punch is one of the best-named abilities we’ve seen!
The Sinister Six is one of the most infamous villain groups in the game, and who doesn’t want a new Doc Ock?
Baron Helmut is a master swordsman with plenty of strong attacks, has a lot of movement abilities, and gets you a ton of free rerolls! Oh yeah, and if you attack the same character more than once, you get a ton of extra attack dice. While he still retains the allied re-roll his movement is now a still respectable medium.
Crossbones doesn’t have an insane number of abilities, but they are quite strong, and he’s very hard to kill as he reduces all damage by 1.
Bucky is quite an interesting character as he has stealth, gets rerolls against close characters, and can hit and run. Not only that, but he can destroy terrain when someone gets close and damage the enemies around him. From the looks of this card, he is no longer able to be slotted into any list now either.
Black Widow also has Stealth, adds blanks in defense rolls, is excellent for picking up objectives, and has plenty of strong attacks. She will be very hard to bring down as she can reroll defense dice, has stealth, and adds blanks to the rolls.
Unfortunately, it looks like The Black Widow costs 4 threat to field now, as opposed to the original 2 from the previous starter box.
Last but not least, you have a new Spider-Man variant. He has a lot of similarities with Wall Crawler and Spider-Sense along with three quite strong attacks, plenty of good abilities, and can throw enemy characters.
New Team Tactics Cards
If you need to get over a wall quickly, this is the card for you! While not the craziest tactic ever, it can take your opponent by surprise.
While this can only be used on lower threat value characters, giving them one extra attack die to their attack, and defense rolls is quite strong.
If you play this with five-power, this is just an insane card, as you can have every single character add attack and defense dice equal to the amount paid.
This card can also be insane if you’re near a bunch of characters, as you can add a ton of dice to each of its attacks!
This one is a little hard to see, but basically, it lets you attack back after your leader is attacked, and gives them cover too.
