The new Space Marine 2 game, along with the publisher behind it, Saber Interactive, has been sold off for $247 million!
The Embracer Group bought Saber Interactive back in 2020, and now they have sold off parts of the publisher that has been working on Space Marine 2 for quite a while. The game is set to be launched in September 2024.
Space Marine 2 Game & Studio Sold For $247 Million
Embracer Group has sold Saber Interactive for $247 million. According to the latest announcement, Embracer has decided to divest selected assets from Saber to a new company called Beacon Interactive, which has been founded by Saber’s co-founder, Matthew Karch.
This move will allow Saber to retain some of its studios, which will help them focus on their core strengths and continue to deliver exceptional titles. Perhaps the biggest piece of news from this announcement was the retained pipeline of games, which may include Space Marine 2 as the “previously announced AAA game based on a major license.”
The retained pipeline includes 14 games to a book value of around SEK 0.5 billion. The retained projects, including two joint projects with the Buyer, include:
- The next AAA game from 4A Games
- An unannounced concept phase AAA game
- A previously announced AAA game based on a major license
- A new AAA multiplayer shooter based on a controlled IP
- A new AA game based on an Asmodee IP
- A new AA game from 34 Big Things based on an owned IP
- Killing Floor 3
- Teardown (ongoing development)
- The full upcoming pipeline and back catalog from Zen Studios, Aspyr and Tripwire
As of this writing, Space Marine Two is still available for pre-order and with a release date of September 9th, 2024. You can reserve yours for Xbox or PS5 on Amazon now.
We hope this sale doesn’t further the delays, but at this point, they have promised a date, so let’s hope they stick to it. However, with a sale can come big changes, so we’ll have to wait and see.
