So we’ve seen quite a few of these Combat Patrol box sets with value since Games Workshop started replacing their Start Collecting box sets with this version at the current price point of $160.

Based on the pricing, it seems like Games Workshop tries to give about $50-$60 of value in their Combat Patrol boxes. However, as shown below, some have more than that, and some have less.

Tau Combat Patrol 2Just to note, we’re going to assume the new Tau Combat Patrol is a $140 price point as everyone else has been the same price so far. Let’s check out the value

                            • Fire Warriors: $60
                            • Fireblade: $33.50
                            • Stealth Battlesuits: $35
                            • Ghostkeel Battlesuit: $90
                            • Ethereal: $35

                            Total MSRP: $253.50

                            Savings Versus Box Price: $93.50

This doesn’t have the highest value we’ve seen, but pretty close to a lot of the boxes and still decent for the price. If you need the models inside, it saves you a decent amount of cash and will get you a lot of minis fairly cheaply.

                            Thousand Sons Combat Patrol:

Click Here To Get Yours For Less: Amazon | Dicehead Games | Bazooka Games |  Frontline Gaming | Element Games (UK) | GW Webstore | or | eBay|

Thousand Sons Combat PatrolThe Thousand Sons one is pretty similar to the Hexfire box, so if you grabbed that one this might still have some value for you. It is a little strange just because it has so many Tzaangors and it’s basically the same as the Hexfire box but with 10 more Tzaangors added in.

Let’s check out what this will save you:

                            • 5x Scarab Occult Terminators $60
                            • Infernal Master $40
                            • 20x Tzaangors (with upgrade sprues) $130

                            Total MSRP: $230

                            Savings Versus Box Price: $70

                            Grey Knights Combat Patrol:

Click Here To Get Yours For Less: Amazon | Dicehead Games | Bazooka Games |  Frontline Gaming | Element Games (UK) | GW Webstore | or | eBay|

Grey Knights Combat PatrolThe Grey Knights one is similar to the Hexfire box, so if you grabbed that one, this might still have some value. Because who doesn’t need more minis, and they switched out the Crowe for the Terminators. So, some pretty decent stuff overall.

Let’s check out what this will save you:

                            • Terminator Squad: $60
                            • Dreadknight: $70
                            • 5x Strike Squad: $40 ($65 for 10)
                            • Librarian: $35

                            Total Value: $205

                            Savings Versus Box Price: $45

Unfortunately, the Grey Knights one has low value… However, this isn’t a bad pick-up for a very low model count army overall.

Click Here To Get Yours For Less: Amazon | Dicehead Games | Bazooka Games |  Frontline Gaming | Element Games (UK) | GW Webstore | or | eBay|

Following on from the events of Shadow Throne, the perfidious Genestealer Cultists and the Talons of the Emperor are mustering Combat Patrols to continue their respective missions across the Imperium. You’ll be able to prepare for these campaigns with Codex: Adeptus Custodes and Codex: Genestealer Cults, which are both packed full of thematic rules like devastating crossfire, and peerless battle stances.

If you need the Sisters models, this box is a good buy, but if not, it may be a pass.  Let’s check out what this will save you:

                            • 10x Sisters of Silence: $120
                            • Shield-Captain/Custodian Guard Squad: $60
                            • Vexilus Praetors: $60

                            Total MSRP: $240

                            Savings Versus Box Price: $80

                            GSC Combat Patrol

Following on from the events of Shadow Throne, the perfidious Genestealer Cultists and the Talons of the Emperor are mustering Combat Patrols to continue their respective missions across the Imperium. Overall, of all the Combat Patrol Boxes, the new Genestealer Cults is a pretty good value in terms of both pricing and selection of models.

Let’s check out what this will save you:

Still, we assume there will be decent value inside, but we’ll break it down below. Let’s see what value you can expect, but remember that the boxes have gone up $10 from the original $140. So we’ll use that as the price point.

                            • Wraithlord $60

                            Tyranids Combat Patrol

Fortunately, the Norn-Queens have been hard at work splicing together a new Combat Patrol box, which is ideal whether you’re brand new to the Tyranids or have been on board since Hive Fleet Behemoth was first sighted.

The box actually has some useful units and minis inside, so this could be a good starting point for players. Let’s see what type of cash it will save you, though.

                            • Hive Tyrant $60
                            • Tyranid Warriors $60
                            • 36 Termagants $105 (includes the Ripper Swarms)

Chaos Combat PatrolHonestly, though, the box has a decent mix of units inside that should be a good kicking-off point for new players. Plus, it seems to be a better force to build an army around when you compare it to something like the recent Thousand Sons box.

                            Let’s check out the value!

                            • 10 Legionaries $65

The daemonic onslaught intensifies, with a Combat Patrol set focused on Khorne. Get the blood flowing with this hefty collection of 34 miniatures, which can be built to reach a Power Level of up to 33 and get you gaming straight away. Now moving to more exclusively Daemon models, this new combat patrol is a great start for any fans of Khorne’s Daemonic forces.  However, this one may not be for you if you’re not collecting skulls in your Daemon army.

                            Combat Patrol Leagues of Votann

It looks pretty similar to the League of Votann army box, but there are two main changes. First, they took out the second squad of warriors and the other character. Replacing that is 5 Berserks (including the mole cannon option).

                            • 10 Hearthkyn Warriors $60

Well, even at the new higher price, this has some really good value inside. It also has very useful units, and even if you bought the Cadia Stands box, you can always use more Cadians, and Sentinels!

                            World Eaters Combat Patrol

While Chaos Space Marines are limited to a single Chaos Lord per Detachment, the World Eaters aren’t subject to such petty jealousy. They can field as many beast-bound Lords as their HQ slots allow, meaning you can muster the complete contents of two Combat Patrols – all without needing to spend any Command points on the new Heroic Support Stratagem.

                            • World Eaters Lord on Juggernaut $60
                            • 10 Jakhals $55

                            Combat Patrol Tyranids

Start your new army with Combat Patrol: Tyranids, a curated collection of units that give you a solid foundation for larger, greater swarms. They’re also an excellent choice for pick-up games of Combat Patrol, leveraging the speed and skill of a Winged Tyranid Prime to pick off critical enemy units while 20 Termagants, five Barbgaunts, three Von Ryan’s Leapers, and a massive Psychophage advance across the field. You also get two Ripper Swarms. Because you can never have too many Ripper Swarms.

Unfortunately, The value in this combat patrol is really just based on a little less than half the contents of the Leviathan Starter Set, minus the Screamer Killer and the Neurotyrant. Overall, unless you need these models because you missed out on that box release, it’s not worth buying this box as the value is far lower than the cost of this box on the secondary market.

This Tyranids Combat Patrol Box is a very sub-par release by Games Workshop.

                              Combat Patrol Space Marines

Take an elite, flexible force into Combat Patrol and kickstart your Space Marines collection with this fine assemblage of powerful heroes. Five Terminators, five Infernus Marines, a Terminator Captain, and a Terminator Librarian – whom you may have seen grinding up some Tyranids in the Leviathan box set earlier this year – put out the damage of many more men, and are tough as nails to boot.

Unfortunately, The value the Space Marines combat patrol is really just based on a little less than half the contents of the Leviathan Starter Set, minus the Ballistus Dreanought, one extra squad of Infernus and the Sternguard Squad. Overall, unless you need these models because you missed out on that box release, it’s not worth buying this box as the value is far lower than the cost of this box on the secondary market.

New Warhammer 40k Combat Patrols 2

Combat Patrol: Necrons is an elite contingent of living metal warriors with a burning desire to return the galaxy to a state of cold stasis, including 10 Necron Warriors, three Skorpekh Destroyers, a Canoptek Doomstalker, and three Canoptek Scarab Swarms, all ready to do battle under the command of the implacable Necron Overlord Amonhotekh.

Unfortunately, The value the Necrons combat patrol is really just based on a much less than half the contents of the Indomitus Starter Set, with a Doomstalker added in. Overall, unless you need these models because you missed out on that box release, it’s not worth buying this box as the value is far lower than the cost of this box on the secondary market.

This Combat Patrol Box is a very sub-par release by Games Workshop.

                                New Warhammer 40k Combat Patrols

The Adeptus Mechanicus are generally too preoccupied with hunting down archeotech to concern themselves with the pathetic flesh of their allies, and their new Combat Patrol box is packed with marvellous cybernetic horrors ready to cleanse dig-sites of contamination.

                                • Tech-Priest Manipulus $40
                                • Rangers $55
                                • Serberys Raiders $60
                                • Pteraxii Skystalkers $60

                                Total MSRP Value: $215

Savings Versus (estimated) $160 Box Price: $55

Which of The 40k Combat Patrol Boxes Has the Best Pricing and value?

                                combat patrol boxes 6

If you look just at the numbers, the Sisters, Daemons, and GSC Combat Patrol boxes come out as winners based on pricing and value. But if you look at the units involved, the Drukahri really come out the winner there, with everything in the box being useful and included in almost every Kabal list.

The Death Guard box does have a ton of value, but it comes mainly in the form of Poxwalkers, so that is hard to gauge. It is the box for you if you want a lot of Poxwalkers.

The Deathwatch, Space Marines, and Grey Knights Combat Patrol boxes are the clear losers on pricing and value. That’s because if you don’t need the characters, you basically get no real value.

But either way, they all save you some cash and get you a bunch of minis in one buy.  So that’s pretty much all the Combat Patrol box value and pricing for your Warhammer army for the price increases.
