We have our take on build it yourself or DIY combat patrol.

Contents List, Pricing, & Release Date

In White Dwarf 508, Games Workshop dropped the Strike Platoon Gorgonne VI, an Astra Militarum Combat Patrol for Warhammer 40k. But there’s a catch—unlike most combat patrols, this one doesn’t come in a neat, discounted box (well, it’s actually the old Start Collecting box with more models, but we’ll look at that more in a minute).
The new 2025 Scions Astra Militarum Combat Patrol has a release date of January 18th, 2025 (the date of the magazine).

Here is a contents list of the Warhammer 40k  Astra Militarum Scions Strike Platoon Gorgonne VI Combat Patrol:

  • 1x Taurox Prime
  • 20x Tempestus Scions
  • 1x Tempestus Command Squad

Tempestus 40k Combat Patrol Combat Patrol Review

Tempestus Combat PatrolNow, let’s look at how much it will cost you to actually build this Combat Patrol and then break down if GW might release it as a stand-alone box set.

Models Unit Name Value
2  Taurox Prime  $60
20 Tempestus Scions $180 ($45 for 5)
5 Tempestus Command Squad $45
Scions Combat Patrol
  Total MSRP:  $285

Anyway you look at it, this is going to be another expensive Combat Patrol! The other boxes all retail for $170, so if you want to play this combat Patrol, you better really also want to use the minis in games of 40k as well because it ain’t going to be cheap. Let’s hope GW does release this in an actual box. It won’t have a ton of value, but it will be cheaper than building it on its own.

Is it Worth It?

Leman Russ Tank Guard Astra Militarum 40k BIG FAQ 2: Five Things That Missed The Mark

Well, if you already play Astra Militarum and have all the minis, it will be nice to also have some CP rules to play with. If you don’t have the minis already, it will cost a decent amount to build. So, if you need the models for your full Imperial Guard 40k army, using them in more than one game mode would be fun.

Scions Start collectingIf you remember the old Start Collecting box, it had a good selection of the minis you’d need for this CP, but you’ll still need to grab three more boxes of Scions… So, if you can find that box for cheap, it’s a good start to building this force.

However, we’re not sure building this from scratch will be worth the time. Especially considering that if you can’t find any discounts, this box will cost you almost $300 to play Combat Patrol.

How Many Points Is This?

So, you’re wondering how many points the Astra Militarum Tempestus Scions Combat Patrol box racks up, eh? Well, in Warhammer 40k 10th edition, this box hits with about 430 points. But, as you know, the tides of the Grimdark universe are ever-shifting, and with the latest points updates, that number could quickly fluctuate.

Tempestus Scions Combat Patrol Contents & Rules

Strike Platoon Gorgonne VI combat patrol rules (3)The Strike Platoon Gorgonne VI is the ultimate combat force drawn from  27 miniatures ready to storm the battlefield and obliterate anything in their path. If your enemies thought they could hold the line, they’re in for a rude awakening.

At the heart of it all is Voice of Command. Your Officers bark out Orders each turn, and your troops jump a little higher. Buffs like better aim, extra cover saves, or leadership boosts land right when you need them. You can even issue Orders after your squad hops out of a Taurox—so yeah, timing’s your best friend here.

Your Warlord Enhancement is Covert Commando, giving your squad Stealth and making them immune to enemy Overwatch. Want to get up close without being lit up like a fireworks finale? This is the one. There’s also Close Assault Doctrine if you’d rather your squad go full John Wick with pistols and reactive firepower. Strike Platoon Gorgonne VI combat patrol rules (2)You’ve got two objectives to mess with: Cordon Imperator scores you 4VP for locking down no man’s land, while Tempest of the Emperor gives you points every time your units erase enemies near objectives. Either way, it rewards aggression backed with planning.

Stratagems sweeten the deal:

  • Servo-Augur Array helps you control objectives longer.
  • Swift Execution adds 3″ to your movement—because sometimes your squad needs to book it.
  • Indoctrinated Obedience lets dying models shoot back on a 3+—petty revenge at its finest.

Kreeth’s Command Squad is where the tactical brains sit. Kreeth lets nearby units roll more attacks with Sustained Hits 1, and he’s dishing out Orders every round. They’re also kitted with hot-shot lasguns and plasma for melting armor—or anything that looks at them funny.

Taurox Prime is your angry box-on-wheels. It’s tough, mobile, and armed to the teeth with twin-linked missile launchers or autocannons. It doesn’t just shoot—it sets up targets for your disembarking troops, letting them re-roll hits against whatever the Taurox softened up.

What to Buy Next?

tempestus aquilonsAt this point, you have to decide if you want to build a full Scions army or just use this as a small force in your bigger Imperial Guard army. If you are going full Scions, you’ll need plenty more Taurox, Aquilons (to fly in from wherever you want on the board), and, of course, some more tanks for the heavy firepower! If you’re going for a regular Astra Militarum army, you’re going to need a ton of tanks, and plenty more infantry!

Final Thoughts on the Tempestus Scions Combat Patrol

All right, that’s our take on Strike Platoon Gorgonne VI—sharper than a bayonet and twice as disciplined. The models have got that clean, elite-guard look that screams “we’re not your average Guardsmen.” But if you’re starting from square one, brace for impact—building this force out can sting the wallet, especially with a Taurox or two in the mix.

Still, it’s a solid patrol with a lot of tactical teeth. We’re crossing our fingers that GW gives it the proper boxed treatment at some point. Until then, maybe start with a Scions squad and see where the orders take you.
