Hey GW just actually lowered a price on something, as they continue to stumble with their Warhammer 40k App…
GW just lowered a price on something, and let’s be real, that’s a pretty huge accomplishment itself regardless of what the product was.
Look if the GW App works for you, then you should get it! But if you really aren’t feeling it, then you shouldn’t, because voting with your hobby dollars is the easiest way to get improvement.
GW knows what sells and what doesn’t and if the app doesn’t live up to their expectations with subscribers, they have no choice but to work on it. That doesn’t mean it isn’t useful or you shouldn’t get it if you want it, if it has value to you, then by all means hit that sub button.
Overall, as we’ve said before, we really really want it to work! Because that would mean everything for your games could be on your phone. How nice would that be? You can see what your opponent’s units do, get all the changes right away, build lists, and just have it all in one place.
8 months after it was supposed to work on launch day, that hasn’t been the case quite yet though and there were still a ton of drawbacks- most of which were addressed in the latest update, as the APP has now moved out of Beta.
Battle Forge is out of beta and ready to help build any list you could think of. Not only does it have all of the features dedicated hobbyists need to get a matched play list ready in minutes, but is also a full reference tool for more casual players to have wherever they need it.
Let take a look at the most recent developments and why we’re still not getting the APP ourselves.

First up, something that rubbed us the wrong way. GW said they were lowering the price of the app, but when we went to resubscribe, the price was the exact same. Just a little upsetting to be told the price is lowering, but then it is still the same.
That promised price should come out to about $2.73 with the conversion rate, so basically 50% off, but you can see the price (at the time of writing this) is still the same in USD.
In retail, it seems like the only reason to ever lower a price is to get folks to buy whatever it is your selling, so we imagine that would be the same for any price reduction we see for GW on any of their products.
Editor’s note: Four days after GW’s post on a price reduction, the price has now been updated in USD to $2.99, which is $2 off the original price of $4.99 shown above.
A Possible Data Breach
Google also gave a data breach warning for the app and said to reset the password. We haven’t heard anything from GW on this, but Google is usually pretty good with this type of thing (and we specifically generated a password for this site in the beginning so it’s only on mywarhammer.com). Still, it may not be 100% a security issue, but just be careful and maybe check your passwords and login.
Mounting Frustration
Gamers have also been voicing their concerns about the new units, Flayed Ones and Heavy Intercessors, being locked in a paywall for Kill Team. Just another little thing that is annoying and seems arbitrary.
We know they want to make money from the app, and for some people, it has worked great, but there have been so many issues with it.
Perhaps all that is now behind us with the latest update.
Have you been pleased with the app? Do you think people not purchasing it will force them to make changes?
