A big shadowy Age of Sigmar Box was teased by Games Workshop and now we finally know what it is, but not quite when it is coming…
We’ve been seeing rumors for a while now about a bunch of new AoS sets, so, which will they reveal first? If the rumors are anything to go off, we might see Ogors or Beasts of Chaos get a rework for the first time in a long time. There’s also a chance it will be a combo set, but either way, we don’t have too long to wait.
Warhammer Community unveiled the shadowy image, but not much more. Let’s check out the preview, then look at the rumors we’ve seen so far!
GW Announces New Age of Sigmar Box Set Reveal For Today!
And after yesterday’s big reveal for Warhammer 40,000, we have something special for fans of the Mortal Realms coming on the same day.
As we said, Ogors, Beasts of Chaos, and Gloomspite Gitz seem the most likely, but with how everything has been going with delays, who knows? Keep in mind too that Games Workshop also said the following for their Christmas Day reveal:
If you’re a fan of Warhammer Age of Sigmar, we will have a major reveal coming on Monday, pitting two allies of Order against one another in a battle of the elements.
GW Reveals New Age of Sigmar Battle Box Set: Fury of the Deep
It looks like 40k isn’t the only game getting a new box set early in 2022! We saw rumors for a while about both Idoneth and Fyreslayers, so this isn’t totally unexpected. However, it looks like there will only be two new miniatures inside (much like the Shadow Throne box) but it’s still better than nothing for both armies.
Warhammer Community just unveiled the new Age of Sigmar box that they had teased. It will come with a total of 43 minis and a 40-page book, so plenty to split with a friend! Let’s check out what’s coming in the new box.
Yet another ancient animosity reaches boiling point as bald heads meet long beards in Fury of the Deep, the next battlebox to rock the Mortal Realms.
The Auric Flamekeeper is joined by five Auric Hearthguard and five Hearthguard Berzerkers – 10 models in total who can be built either way – as well as 10 Vulkite Berzerkers. Against them is an Idoneth raiding party consisting of 10 Namarti Thralls, 10 Namarti Reavers, and a blood-thirsty Akhelian Allopex.
With 43 minis (and 2 new ones) there is a decent amount inside the box! They say the book will be released in “early 2022”, and since they revealed the box, mid to late January would be a great place to start looking for it at the earliest.
They did mention this little tidbit that apparently the new Eldritch omens box will come out at the same time as well:
And after yesterday’s big reveal for Warhammer 40,000, we have something special for fans of the Mortal Realms coming on the same day.
Considering we saw an Idoneth Warband not too long ago, it was only a matter of time before they grabbed a new battletome as well.
New Idoneth Akhelian Thrallmaster Miniature
The soul-hunting Idoneth Deepkin are escalating their raids on the coastal Fyreslayer stronghold of Ryftmar. As the acidic tides rise, so too does the intensity of the marauding Akhelian Thrallmaster, a new Idoneth character. The Thrallmaster shifts stances to effortlessly counter whichever opponent he faces, instructing his Namarti followers to follow suit.

The new mini is definitely interesting and the creature on the base is a nice touch. If you play Deepkin, grabbing a new character is always nice, and this means a new book is probably on the horizon. So get ready for some new rules!
New Fyreslayer Auric Flamekeeper
Standing against him is an Auric Flamekeeper, a Fyreslayer warrior priest who presides over a Lodge’s funerary rites. Armed with a brazier axe, the solemn Flamekeepers are responsible for removing the ur-gold runes of fallen warriors. They can harness the power of lifeless runes to bestow blessings upon their fellow duardin, all the while bellowing litanies from beneath their grim death masks.
The description of this could make for some really interesting mechanics. Something like when models die near him he can then cast spells to empower other units or himself. Since they want to get stuck in combat anyway, it could be a really fun addition to the army. Just like the Deepkin, this also may also mean they have a new battletome on the horizon soon!
Fury of the Deep Booklet
You’ll also get a 40-page booklet containing all the background on the war over Ryftmar, rules for a new Aqshyan Region of War called the Vitriolus Reach, and three battle plans covering the events of the raids. There are Warscroll cards for all the miniatures in the box, as well as tokens so you can keep track of your Command Points and of various rules. You’ll be able to start playing right out of the box, with a 56-page version of the Core Book.
It’s always fun to get some new battle plans in these types of boxes, let’s just hope that doesn’t raise the retail price as things like that should just be added value to box sets.
Let’s check out the rumors and guess what’s coming this year for Age of Sigmar
Gloomspite Gitz vs Beasts of Chaos
This will be a dual army box, meaning if you play either side, you’ll be getting new stuff! The gobbo side of things will see a new Scuttleboss on Giant Spider. While the old mini isn’t too bad, it’s really nothing to write home about.
While that’s nice, Beasts of Chaos will be getting a whole host of new minis! They will be getting three new minis, Doombull, Bullgor, and Jabberslythe. All three of those kits really need a rework (not to mention everything they have).
Start Collecting Ogors
According to the rumors, they will be getting a new box along with their upcoming new book. In that, they will grab a new plastic Slaughtermaster/Butcher. This is great because they’ve needed an update for a long time. Not sure if they will be grabbing other new minis or not, but at least they can look forward to one new one for sure.
Ossiarch Bonereapers
They received some new stuff for Underworlds, so that’s usually a good precursor to new minis for AoS. This probably won’t happen for a while, but it looks like they will be getting a new hero on foot and Mortek Archers. So two new units is something you can’t complain about!
Slaves to Darkness
Last but not least, it looks like Chaos will receive some love. Maybe not as much as they need, but some. With Chaos Warriors and Knights getting an upgrade sprue very similar to what they just did with Cadians. Luckily, they will also be getting brand new Chosen, which really need it because they don’t look very loved by the Chaos Gods right now.
But remember, these are all rumors after all…
What do you think it will be? What army are you hoping for?
