Age of Sigmar (AoS) Battlescroll Rules Update & Changes

Here is the latest on the Age of Sigmar Battlescroll updates for 4th Edition AoS.

Core Rules and General’s Handbook Updates:

Manifestations

battlescroll 2024 RulesIt looks like the mystical forces in Age of Sigmar just got a bit more… polite? Manifestations, those ghostly rules-be-damned spells, now follow one important rule: once you’re removed from play, you can’t just reappear and crash the party in the same turn. Makes sense—no one likes a repeat uninvited guest. And as for Banishment? Each extra manifestation makes that banishment roll tougher, kind of like juggling spells while someone adds more plates to the pile. The Gravetide, that once-scary wave of death, now needs a bigger casting value, and don’t even get us started on Malevolent Maelstrom—it’s like someone put a self-destruct button on a storm cloud. Just what you need when things are going well, right?

Honour Guard

aos battlescroll 2024 Rules 2The Honour Guard rules got a touch-up too. No more unfair power-ups from Priority Target. Now, you can only hit harder against the enemy general and their mates, and only if you’re up close and personal. That’s fine—any self-respecting warband should get into the thick of it anyway.

Grand Alliance: Order Adjustments:

Cities of Sigmar

battlescroll 2024 Rules 3 battlescroll 2024 Rules 4Freeguild Fusiliers now get to make a decision every time they hunker down in their fortified positions. Whether you prefer to fire arrows or throw in musket fire, the ball’s in their court. It’s like ordering from a menu—do you want your enemies peppered from a distance or skewered from slightly further away?

Daughters of Khaine

aos battlescroll 2024 Rules 5The nimble assassins of Khaine no longer get to skulk around the battlefield unimpeded. If they fail their shadow-dancing roll, they’re not going anywhere. Even the most ruthless followers of the Murder God can’t teleport out of a bad situation.

Lumineth Realm-lords

aos battlescroll 2024 Rules 6Shining Company’s famous “can’t touch this” glow has dimmed a little. If your unit charges or casts Power of Hysh, don’t expect that -1 to hit anymore. The Archmages of Hysh have clearly realized that too much glitter isn’t always better. Still, Lyrior Uthralle and the Shrine Luminor got some love, with clarifications on their timing and wording.

Sylvaneth

aos battlescroll 2024 Rules 8Alarielle’s treefolk got a boost. Now their Wyldwoods come with a 5+ Ward save, making them tougher to root out. Alarielle herself can heal returning Monsters, but only up to six wounds now. Vengeful Skullroot, the angry tree who wants to be a Wyldwood when it grows up, is now treated as one by some friendly abilities. That’s growth, literally.

Grand Alliance: Chaos AoS Rules Adjustments:

Blades of Khorne

aos battlescroll 2024 Rules 9Wrath Axe now strikes with a bit more precision thanks to a timing tweak. Khorne loves simplicity when it comes to hitting things harder. Nothing fancy—just violence, but now with a clearer instruction manual.

Tzeentch

aos battlescroll 2024 Rules 10Tzeentch’s minions get to enjoy more control over manifestations and terrain, meaning there’s more trickery to manipulate. And Chaos Spawns now have a proper place at deployment, ready to charge straight into chaos (literally).

Hedonites of Slaanesh

games workshop warhammer Age of SigmarTemptation Dice now make opponents suffer just a little more. When your rival rolls low, they have to live with it—no fancy rerolls to save the day. It’s all about the pain, and that’s exactly how Slaanesh likes it.

Maggotkin of Nurgle

games workshop warhammer Age of SigmarBurst Pustules! That’s right, your diseased units can now spread their misery to nearby enemies when they bite the dust. It’s Nurgle’s way of saying, “sharing is caring,” except in this case, sharing leads to mass infection.

Grand Alliance: Death AoS Rules Adjustments:

Nighthaunt

games workshop Age of SigmarThe ghostly legions of Nighthaunt got reeled in a little. “There is No Escape” now only affects one friendly unit, which means fewer armies floating through walls like bad special effects. The Dreadblade Harrows are a bit more restricted too, phasing out only during the Movement Phase.

Soulblight Gravelords

games workshop Age of SigmarTorgillius the Chamberlain had his Necrotising Bolts trimmed down to D6, and there’s more control on who gets the Deathly Invocation buffs. Even the Soulblight must follow some rules it seems, but there’s still plenty of evil to go around.

Grand Alliance: Destruction AoS Rules Adjustments:

Kragnos, the End of Empires

games workshop Age of SigmarKragnos’ counter-charge ability was a little too good, so now it only activates during his Charge Phase. But don’t worry, his points cost got a 100-point discount to make sure he’s still stomping around the battlefield like the giant force of destruction he is. Every bit the god-crushing presence, but now with a bit more focus.

Ironjawz

games workshop Age of SigmarWaaagh! Ironjawz got a nice boost—now their signature Waaagh! ability can be used once per Hero, instead of just once per battle. That’s more Waaagh! than ever. Time to get loud.

Final Thoughts on the 4th Edition Warhammer AoS Rules Changes

And there you have it—some major shakeups from Games Workshop for AoS Warhammer across the Mortal Realms! Whether you’re cheering for Kragnos as he charges a little more thoughtfully or feeling the chill from Lumineth’s toned-down shimmer, these updates are bound to spark some new strategies (and plenty of debates). It’s clear that the Age of Sigmar team isn’t afraid to step in and tweak things to keep battles both fair and fun—because, let’s be honest, no one wants a game where one faction’s just casting spells like they’re throwing a party while everyone else is stuck in the corner.

You can expect monthly FAQ updates towards the end of each month to adjust any issues that crop up, as well as bigger adjustments in our quarterly battlescroll updates.
