GW revealed some pretty interesting new Age of Sigmar Armies of Renown rules for the Ogor Mawtribes and Fyreslayers!
Armies of Renown are a cool way for GW to give each army a little bit of flair without having to come out with a full new battletome. There will be four new Armies of Renown in the upcoming Dawnbringer supplement. Considering we’re already seeing rules, we might see the third book soon!
Each army has Grand Strategies and Battle Tactics enhancements to show off their experience from long crusades. Let’s check out the new rules!
New AoS Ogor Mawtribes & Fyreslayers Armies of Renown Rules Revealed
The new AoS Ogor Mawtribes & Fyreslayers Armies of Renown Rules Revealed rules come from Warhammer Community.
The Aqshian Crusade pushes into the Great Parch where they must battle the Goretide of Khorne, as old allies from the earliest days of Warhammer Age of Sigmar lore reunite for a grudge match against Khorgos Khul. In Ghyran, the Dawnbringers are beset on all sides by teeming hordes of deranged Ogor Gorgers, but a powerful new Sylvaneth ally makes himself known.
The book was revealed at Warhammer Day, and it seems like it will focus on Order, as the new Ionus Cryptborn is on the cover! Now, let’s jump into the rules.
The Roving Maw Army of Renown saturates the air with gastromantic magic stoked by corpulent Ogor Butchers and their packs of Mawpack pariahs, puncturing the battlefield with gnashing mawpits – hungry rents in the ground that the Ogors believe represent their Gulping God.
At the start of each battle round, a 2D6 roll determines hunger on a scale from Peckish to Ravenous, with commensurate effects for units not wholly within 1″ of terrain, including reducing bravery and dealing Mortal Wounds.
Considering you do this every turn, this can either dish out a decent number of wounds or really debuff your enemies! Just roll high, and you get to pick from all of them.
Roving Maw Butchers can pick a spell from the Lore of the Great Maw to supplement their hungry allies. With a sprinkling of glistening Mawmeat a Butcher can attract Mawpits to safe terrain, preventing enemy units from using a terrain feature to avoid being chomped on.
This can really increase the strength of your Mawpits, but we’re sure there will be other spells as well.
Fyreslayers Rules
This army pairs Fyreslayers with powerful Magmadroths, only excluding unique units that lack the Lofnir keyword. Years of experience rearing hot-tempered Magmadroth has made Vulkyn Flameseekers Daring Tamers who can inflict the strike-last effect on MONSTERS if two units work in tandem to tackle a surly beast.
Having strike-last is a huge debuff, and if you need to take down some giant monsters, just get more than one unit stuck in!
As Honourbound Drotmasters, one Auric Runeson on Magmadroth may be taken as a Battleline unit for every unit of Vulkyn Flameseekers (who are also Battleline). Handy, when these Flameseeking Fyreslayers can straddle these fiery steeds to cover ground faster.
This really unlocks a lot of list-building opportunities and will let you take even more Flameseekers and Magmadroths.
Lofnir Magmadroths have a spark of the Ur Salamander. These Spawn of Vulcatrix demonstrate their power with three special Monstrous Rampages, like Eruption of Ferocity, which strips the ward saves from units with 3” on a 2+.
This is pretty great, as ward saves can be really annoying to deal with, and on a 2+, you should be getting this off all the time.
