About Rob Baer: Founder, Publisher, & Managing Editor of Spikey Bits, the leading tabletop gaming news website focused on the hobby side of wargaming and miniatures.

Rob also co-founded and is a panelist on the weekly Long War Podcast, which has over 350 episodes and focuses on tabletop miniatures gaming, specializing in Warhammer 40k, and spent six years writing for Bell of Lost Souls.

Every year, he and his co-hosts help host the Long War 40k Doubles Tournament at Adepticon and the Long War 40k Doubles at the Las Vegas Open, both of which attract thousands of players from around the world.

Rob has won many Warhammer 40k Tournaments over the years, including multiple first-place finishes in Warhammer 40k Grand Tournaments and even winning 1st place at the 2011 Adepticon 40k Team Tournament. He was even featured for his painting in issue #304 of Games Workshop’s White Dwarf Magazine.

With over 30 years of experience in retail and distribution, Rob knows all the products and exactly which ones are the best. As a member of GAMA (Game Manufacturers Association), he advocates for gaming stores and manufacturers in these difficult times. He is always looking for the next big thing to feature for the miniatures hobby, helping everyone provide the value consumers want.

While he’s played every edition of Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy (since 5th Edition) and has been hobbying on miniatures since the 1980s, Titans of all sizes will always be his favorite! It’s even rumored that his hobby vault rivals the Solemnance Galleries, containing rulebooks filled with lore from editions long past, ancient packs of black-bordered Magic Cards, and models made of both pewter and resin.

A few years back I made some Ork Warbuggy conversions, and just recently found the pictures from the project- hidden deep in the bowels of my computer. The conversion is basically a slimmed down Ork Trukk made into a buggy.  For a time they served in my Ork army, but these eventually formed the base for my […]

Recently I re-posted an article from the From the Warp blog, and didn’t really check the formatting, which sucked pretty bad when I put it on here. It’s a great article that has come up for me time and time again. I apologize, but I just had a chance to go back and fix it, as I […]

The NOVA decision at this time is to go forward with 5th Edition “unless GW releases a 6th Edition prior to June.” Our staff has been studying the question and we find the 6th edition release date (purported to be mid-summer) is based entirely on internet rumors, and a leaked PDF of limited authenticity. The […]

Checkout one of the most impressive Orky conversions that I can recall. This baby was on display during Games Workshop’s Conversion Contest at a recent Games Day, and it rocks! It’s chock full of details from the seasick lad, to the little dinghy trailing behind, this thing is awesome. No wonder this model took home […]

Funny how things stay relatively under-wraps when it’s not put in the White Dwarf to be leaked all over the world by Wayland Games’ newsletter division: Beasts of War. One could even say this release was a test just to see if those leaks would be plugged? Seems to have worked. I was notified today by Games […]
