About Rob Baer: Founder, Publisher, & Managing Editor of Spikey Bits, the leading tabletop gaming news website focused on the hobby side of wargaming and miniatures.
Rob also co-founded and is a panelist on the weekly Long War Podcast, which has over 350 episodes and focuses on tabletop miniatures gaming, specializing in Warhammer 40k, and spent six years writing for Bell of Lost Souls.
Every year, he and his co-hosts help host the Long War 40k Doubles Tournament at Adepticon and the Long War 40k Doubles at the Las Vegas Open, both of which attract thousands of players from around the world.
Rob has won many Warhammer 40k Tournaments over the years, including multiple first-place finishes in Warhammer 40k Grand Tournaments and even winning 1st place at the 2011 Adepticon 40k Team Tournament. He was even featured for his painting in issue #304 of Games Workshop’s White Dwarf Magazine.
With over 30 years of experience in retail and distribution, Rob knows all the products and exactly which ones are the best. As a member of GAMA (Game Manufacturers Association), he advocates for gaming stores and manufacturers in these difficult times. He is always looking for the next big thing to feature for the miniatures hobby, helping everyone provide the value consumers want.
While he’s played every edition of Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy (since 5th Edition) and has been hobbying on miniatures since the 1980s, Titans of all sizes will always be his favorite! It’s even rumored that his hobby vault rivals the Solemnance Galleries, containing rulebooks filled with lore from editions long past, ancient packs of black-bordered Magic Cards, and models made of both pewter and resin.
It’s the age old question- Magnets how do they work? Some say magic, but I am almost 100% sure Tom Cruise has something to do with it. Regardless, they just work and its awesome! Today we have a Two-Fer for you, how to magnetize your Stormraven, and how to magnetize stuff in general. So back […]

Read MoreA few years ago I wanted to convert up an Ironclad model before it was released. I had a few ideas but after seeing some of the stuff my buddy Plunkett was doing with his stuff, I decided to let him have a go at it. Then I could just detail it out the rest […]

Worth a read! This one’s about his ‘Ard Boyz Semis victory over the weekend, and since I choked round one, well I gotta get you coverage somehow! So last Saturday […]

Read MoreCheck out these gorgeous WIP shots of Jkin’s Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons. It’s pretty amazing what can be done now with all the plastic kits out there! I think his conversions really bring home the look and Egyptian feel to the figures that the books convey. He really went the extra mile incorporating bits from the […]

Read MoreI got a ton of response lately about the Looted Guard. Everyone seems to want to know how I did the chipped paint. Guess I’ve procrastinated long enough right? Time to get an article together on it. So without any further fuss, here’s your how to article on the Chipped Paint Effect! To start out I just painted […]

Read MoreSo ‘Ard Boyz Semis happened over the weekend, and the field of armies played (at least at the stores I heard of) seemed to be slightly narrower. Virginia saw mostly Power Armor, with an emphasis on Grey Knights and Blood Angels over Space Wolves. So what does that mean for the current meta? Perhaps it’s still too early […]

Read MoreHere is a guest Painting “Guide” by Scottywon82. According to him it’s not really complicated enough to warrant the name, but I still like it. You can find Scottywon82 lurking about over on DakkaDakka most of the time, or harassing us at FTW Games 🙂 I really went for a simple look with the Prussians, […]
