Daemons Codex Post

Are you frustrated with the uncertainty of the Daemons Codex? Come see the Tips and Tricks you should know regardless of looming FAQ changes and such.

The new Chaos Daemon codex is finally here and it is time to see who wins and who loses. With 50 datasheets, 10 Stratagems, 24 Warlord Traits, 15 Relics, and 21 psychic powers, the Chaos Daemons have a good amount of content to draw from. However, as we will soon find out, there are drawbacks to this codex and some Chaos players will feel underwhelmed by what is available to them. Our very own Rob Baer has his own copy on the paint bench for a quick review of what you will find inside.

Jumping right in, there is a solid amount of drama with this codex. Some of the rules that were leaked ahead of release did not make Chaos players feel confident in what was coming for daemons. One such discussion is the Denizens of the Warp Stratagem that will allow you to deep strike a unit in with the Daemon keyword. This is great if you want to use Morty or Magnus, as you can put them in play without having them get shot off the table. Now, there is word going around the ITC circuit that this will be changed. This leaves a level of uncertainty in the air with players that do not want to invest hobby time on a unit that will see little to no use. That being said, there is some synergy that can be found in this codex. Just do not expect much at first glance.

Some changes you will find to be quite good and others… not so much. One change just may see the Changling not be included in lists. His locus ability was changed from a -1 to hit for all friendly Tzeentch Daemons to 6+ Feel No Pain ability. Screamers now have their Lamprey Bites attack only.  The wording on their Slashing Attack ability has been changed as well to read, “If this unit moves over an enemy unit in the Movement phase (and did not Fall Back)” instead of needing to Advance for this ability to proc.

Codex: Chaos Daemons: $40

Beyond the boundaries of space and time, the Chaos Gods observe the galaxy with ancient and malevolent eyes. To these terrible entities, realspace is simply a battlefield, and its inhabitants mere pawns in the grandest game of all – the struggle for ultimate dominion between the Ruinous Powers themselves. Their truest servants, who fight this war in their names, are the daemons created in their own image: creatures of staggering power, horrifying aspect and exceptional cruelty.

Codex: Chaos Daemons contains a wealth of background and rules – the definitive book for Chaos Daemons collectors. Within this 144-page hardback, you’ll find:

– The Chaos Gods & Their Infernal Legions: descriptions of the warp, the maddening realm that the Chaos Gods call home, and of the major Chaos Gods – Khorne, Slaanesh, Tzeentch and Nurgle – along with their servants, the Chaos Daemons;
– Examples of the compositions of daemonic forces for the 4 Chaos Gods – the Scintillating Legions, the Plague Legions, the Blood Legions and the Legions of Excess;
– Galactic Corruption: a map showing the impact of the Great Rift, from which the malign energies of the warp pour into realspace, with details of warp storms, Chaos strongholds and daemon worlds;
– Chaos Rising: a brief history of major warp-based catastrophes and daemonic incursions – at least, the few that remain on-record…
– Background and details on each character and unit available to a Chaos Daemons army;
– A showcase of beautifully painted Citadel miniatures, with example armies featuring everything from individual images of models to battle scenes on terrain.
