Is your hobby table a little on the sad side? Come take a look at this one-year-old hobby table, and grab some ideas to help upgrade your hobby workspace.

Having a great hobby table is something every hobbyist wants but may not have the budget for. However, there are some great options out there to help upgrade your hobby workspace and save your hobby dollars in the process.

Don’t worry, I used to be just like you, my table lacked pizzaz, and most the time was used as my daughter’s homework desk…

Now don’t get me wrong, two lights, an L shaped desk, a citadel project box, a hobby mat, and basic hobbying tools isn’t a bad place to start, and it sure beats the kitchen table. The little one loved it because it provided the perfect workspace for her to do her homework, but that wasn’t why I got a hobby table in the first place!

So I slowly started buying things to take it up a notch, and a year later I officially have a hobby workspace to be proud of.

I have seen the light! Literally, I have more lights than I know what to do with now, and it’s awesome! Not to mention an airbrush, a vent, 3D printer hobby accessories, and more neglected miniatures than I’ve ever had!

One game changer I invested in was a good paint rack system.

Having a good paint rack helps keep your small space organized and a lot easier to find that one specific color you’re looking for. There are a lot of different racks out there, but shop around and find one you like that fits your budget. MDF is going to be cheaper than acrylic, but once again you’re going to have to decide how much you want to spend. If you’re looking for a good, but cheap, option, Slowfuse Gaming has some nice racks for you, and they’re all under $24, you just can’t beat that.

Lights, lights, and more lights! Something every hobbyist can never have too much of.

The two original lights I started with a year ago are still at the hobby table, they just serve as a little additional lighting, not that I need it at this point. My main light sources is a daylight light bulb in my ceiling fan, the LED’s in the airbrush hood (but those only come on when the hood is on), and then that amazing light halo. One of the best upgrades I’ve done to my hobby table (besides investing in an airbrush) was building the LED light halo. It’s super easy to build, cheaper than most of your decent hobby lights, and it’s super bright. The best part is you’ll never have to change a light bulb again, so it pays for itself in the long run. Don’t know how to build one? Don’t worry, we’ll have a tutorial coming out for you real soon.

It took me less than $300 (excluding the airbrush and compressor) over the last year to turn my hobby table into what it is now. It’s not hard to take your hobby table up to the next level, just look for different things to help organize, better lighting, and next thing you know you have enough put aside that you’ll have a new airbrush before you know it. So what are you waiting on?

Let’s see those hobby tables!
