Primaris have come a long way since their initial release in 2017, here are our ideas on a road map of new units, and what we need to see from there.
GW introduced “Primaris” covering the most basic roles for the battlefield. We saw Intercessors, a Captain, and some Lieutenants to start things out. Later, we saw certain, more niche battlefield roles covered like Sniping (Eliminators) and elite-killing plasma (Hellblasters). Now, we’ll be looking at what we know is on the way as well as what other Primaris support we would still need to get beyond that.
Support from Indomitus
Taking a look at some of the goods from Indomitus, we’ve got the Bikers. This is a unit we’ve needed for a while as the most mobile non-character non-vehicle unit we had were some 10″-moving Inceptors. Now, these guys move 14″ +6″ and have loads of S4 -1AP potential damage.
Eradicators filled the infantry anti-armor department inside Indomitus and with their shoot twice ability, they’re actually really nasty. They’ll have a target on their back in games against Knights for sure.
Next, Bladeguard Veterans are the answered prayers to melee armies as now they’re the first DEDICATED melee unit for Primaris. We say Dedicated because Aggressors do have powerfists, but with their shoot twice ability and ignoring the penalties for advancing and shooting, they’re more of a shooting unit than a melee one.
Power Armored Road Map: Primaris Units We’re Waiting to See
At the top of the list, Chapters need their signature units turned Primaris. Sanguinary Guard and Death Company for Blood Angels. Maybe some Aggressor-style Gravis armored Deathwing units, etc. for Dark Angels. Lastly, why not Primaris Wulfen for the Space Wolves…
On the note of Primaris Blood Angels, we have seen Death Company Intercessors, which, those Assault Intercessors inside of Indomitus are still “Intercessor” keyworded. However, they don’t have any wargear that makes them more mobile or good at popping tanks (which is the current draw to Death Company now).
Overall, there has been some steady progress made to the Primaris line. Primaris all started with mainly boltguns and simple wargear. Now, we’re seeing GW drop new kits that fill specific roles on the tabletop with all sorts of new rules and wargear. For the players that are stuck waiting to see their Chapter’s signature units turn Primaris, there’s been no official word on when they’ll come. But following the pattern, it’s probably only a matter of time.
