Atomic Mass Games just announced a change of plans for the Star Wars Armada range, but it’s not all bad news.
Star Wars tabletop games seem to have been doing very well lately with lots of people even just wanting to collect the models. Even still, AMG has decided to stop development and just work on printing existing products.
AMG Halts Development For Star Wars Armada Game
So, initially, this seems pretty grim. Halting all development of new products indefinitely is not something you want to see as a player. However, it’s important to remember that Armada (and other AMG/FFG titles) have been a little notorious to get products.
Even before COVID, items were sold out, and at times it was pretty hard to get key kits. It’s not clear whether this is due to huge demand, or lack of supply, or both.
However, this shift to focus on just printing existing kits might help them keep up with the demand of what already exists. It doesn’t make much sense to continue to make products if they can’t keep up with play demand, and it will stretch their resources thin and make kits even harder to get as they move forward.
Another potential bonus is new players. If products are more consistently in stock, it might be easier to pick up new players at a given LGS. Everyone knows Star Wars and plenty of people love it. If something Star Wars is on the shelf, it is bound to get some recognition.
What we can hope for is that this helps the game have a steadier flow of stock and potentially some growth, that way they can continue development later.
This is sad news for some, but do you see some potential positives? Have you had issues getting product before?
