Games Workshop has delivered with these free new AoS Warscroll rules PDF downloads for Belthanos, First Thorn of Kurnoth!
The new model is quite interesting, pretty big, and has some cool rules! It’s always cool to see a new model that looks good get some free rules, especially when GW launches the model in a box and not on its own.
It doesn’t feel as bad to have to buy the box if you at least get the rules for free.
The complete rules are also available in the new Dawnbringers book, which will also have all the Armies of Renown rules, so if you plan on picking any of those up, the book will probably also be worth it. For now, though, let’s jump into the new rules!
Belthanos Rides into AoS With This Free New Rules Warscroll
The new Belthanos, First Thorn of Kurnoth rules come from Warhammer Community.
With 14 wounds, a 12″ move, and plenty of attacks, he should be good for smashing through the enemy! Then, he gives you a ton of movement abilities with both the ability to run then charge, and retreat then charge again!
He comes in at 360 points, so it’s quite expensive but nothing too insane.
The Carnelian Greatspite accompanies him on his raids, a creature of pure Ghyranite magic, sprouting fresh life wherever it treads. During the hero phase, on a 3+ its Nature Aetheric can apply a Mysterious Terrain effect of your choosing to a terrain feature within 6”. This infusion of life magic also turns it into overgrown terrain.
This is a very flavorful rule and can make for some fun shenanigans.
Kurnoth worshippers prefer a more direct approach to warfare than their secretive kin, ferociously charging into battle rather than slipping through the hidden paths. When Belthanos sounds the hunt from his Kurnothi War-horn, its rousing melody grants allies the ability to charge even if they’ve run that turn.
When he’s unwounded, this has a range of 18″ and can allow you to sprint forward and get off a ton of charges!
The Evergreen Hunt Rules
The whole army is captive to the Harmonies of the Hunt that resonate with the primordial melodies within them. At the onset of each battle, they pick an enemy unit to be their quarry, and by chasing down and killing their prey they add new chords to the growing harmony.
At the start of the battle, you will basically get one chord, and the more units you get into your opponent’s board quarter or destroy enemy units, you get more chords.
As the battle progresses, the song turns from Discordant to Mellifluous, granting a range of boons to the whole army while they are in close pursuit of their prey.
Just by having Belthanos on the amp, you will get +1 to your run and charge rolls in their quarter, and considering you also get to run and charge, you can cover huge swathes of the table quickly. Then, the more you get, the better you get! If you can get to 6, you have +! to run and charge, +! to hit and wound rolls, +1 attacks, and can pile in 6″!
These are pretty insane buffs once you get going.
